I made sure everything that the institution gave us are all in the bag as soon as I woke up. I also showered quite early and dressed Sam up as nice as I can with the minuscule amount of clothes that we owned at the moment. I wore my thick blonde hair up to make myself look presentable as well with the only pair of jeans that I own with a black woollen jumper that Sally had given me the day prior.

I took Sam on my lap and fixed her hair. She's been so excited ever since she woke up and while we were having breakfast. She wouldn't stop talking about how she's excited to taste Amelia's cookies again. I wished, as I stared at her, I can be as happy as her at this point because I want to be able to feel the warmth that a person gets from joy again. I know it'll take time because of my current emotions but I know I'll come to that point someday. I hope Amelia will understand that as well.

"You're really excited, yeah?" I asked her as I braided her hair.

She nodded vigorously. "I am." She said and smiled widely. "Are you?" She asked and looked up at me and placed her hands on my face, just like what she's always done.

I sent her a small smile and nodded. "Yes, I am." I said and kissed her head. "I really am, Sammy."

She grinned. "Good." She said while holding up her small thumb.

After a few minutes of talking, Sally called us and told us that Amelia's here. Samantha practically jumped up from my lap and followed Sally out of the room. I sighed and stood up from the bed and took the bags where Sam and I's clothes are, as well as his teddy. Sally placed a hand on my back as we walked towards the lobby and also took the other bag from me.

"Are you okay, love?" She asked while looking down at me.

I nodded. "Yeah. I'm just nervous I guess." I said and looked down at the floor. "What if she doesn't like us?"

"Don't be nervous, Mia. Amelia's nice and she wants to take care of you and I never saw hesitance on her face when we were talking about you." She said and smiled down at me. "You don't need to worry about anything, okay?"

I bit the inside of my cheek and nodded. "Okay," I said and looked up at her. "Thank you, Sally." I whispered.

She smiled. "You are welcome, Mia."

I sent her the best smile that can muster and looked away from her when I heard Sam's voice from the lobby.

"There's Mia." She said and saw her point at me while she sat on a beautiful brunette's lap.

Amelia looked up at me, a smile already on her face. Her facial expression lit up even more than it is and waved at me.

"Go greet her, love." Sally said.

I nodded and walked towards her. "Hi. Good morning, Mrs. Twist." I said.

She stood up from the couch and walked towards me. "Oh, darling, you can call me Amelia." She said and suddenly hugged me. "I hope you get comfortable around me soon." She whispered to me and smiled at me again as soon as she pulled back.

"Thank you for understanding, Amelia." I said. "And thank you for...doing this for us." I said and sent her a smile.

She placed a hand on my shoulder and gave it a small squeeze. "Oh, love. It was a real pleasure to have you as a part of my family." She said. "You're a lovely girl. I know you are and just know that I believe in you." She told me before walking towards the desk, where Sally has the papers for the adoption are.

I sat down on one of the couches and stared at her as she talked to Sally while signing the papers. I have signed those yesterday as well and had Sam's fingerprint on them, too.
