1.17 Hook

Next day at the haven.

We were walking back to the haven.

Aurora shook her head " I don't know if I can do this. I'm not a very good liar. "

Me "Oh, it's not really a lie, Aurora. Lancelot did die an honorable death, and Cora did escape. All true. Just leave the particulars to us. There's no reason to cause unnecessary panic amongst your people"

Aurora shook her head " I'm not so sure it's unnecessary- "

Mulan suddenly stopped and raised her hand " Wait. The tower – we always have sentries guarding the entrance. Stay close."

We followed her to the area below the guard tower, where we  found piles of corpses strewn across the field.

I froze.

Emma's jaw dropped " Oh my God... "

Mulan shook her head, shocked " This can't be... Our land... We were protected here – hidden. How did the ogres find us? "

I shook my head " Ogres didn't do this. "

She looked at me confused "What? "

Me "It was her. Cora. Their hearts... They were ripped out. This is her magic. We have to stop her. "

Mulan shook her head "Too late. She killed them. She killed them all."

Me "Well, we have to stop her before she hurts anyone else!"

Emma" Hey! Hey! Look! "

She rushed towards a stack of bodies and debris. There was someone waving their hand.

Aurora"There's someone under there. "

She and Emma pulled the guy up and i froze.

Aurora" He's alive. "

Hook"Please. Please, help me. "

Aurora " It's okay. You're safe now. We won't hurt you."

Hook looked at me and froze " Thank you. Thank you..."

I breathed out annoyed "You have got to be kidding me"

Emma, Mulan and i were watching him from the distance.

Emma "Have you seen him before? "

Mulan nodded " Yes, I've seen him around. He's a blacksmith. Came to our camp a couple months ago. Said he lost his hand in an ogre attack. "

Then she asked confused "Why would Cora leave a survivor? "

Emma shook her head " It's messy. Doesn't make sense. "

Mulan"You think he's lying? "

I nodded "i know he is"

They looked at me.

Emma "you know him?"

Me "He and i have a past together. Let me handle it"

Mulan "you sure?"

I nodded "yes. "

We walked back to him.

Emma handed him a cup.

Hook " I can't thank you enough for your kindness. Fortune, it seems, has seen fit to show me favour. "

Me "An island full of corpses. You're the only one to escape. How exactly did that happen? "

Hook" She attacked at night – slaughtered everyone in one fell swoop. When she started ripping out people's hearts, I hid under the bodies of those who had already been killed. Pretended to be dead myself. Mercifully, the ruse worked. "
