“I…I actually like you a lot…” I admitted, “Ever since I saw you…” I reached up and kissed his lips quickly. My heart swelled at the short intimacy.
But his reaction, though, caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting him to be jumping for joy but I wasn’t expecting him to look as if he’d just seen a ghost either. His face seemed to lose its golden glow. My heart dropped, as I got ready for the possible rejection. But he couldn’t could he? He couldn’t just reject me like that…could he? I furrowed my eyebrow as I stared at him, “You can’t…” he told me, “You can’t like me…”
I let my hands slide off his chest and looked up at him, “Why not?”
“Because… you’re Sam’s niece!”
Sam. Oh here it is again. Why is it always him?
I frowned, “So?”
“So, you can’t like me…”
“But…you like me…”
There was a long pause before Jacob actually responded but even then I knew hiss reply wasn’t going to be something I wanted to hear, “I don’t like you I care about you… like a sister.”

“But… you kissed me!”
“I know… and…. And it was a mistake!” A mistake…
Those two words thundered in my heart and echoed in my ears. How could he say that? The kiss was a mistake? I quickly blinked my eyes rapidly as I tried to keep them dry.
“Macy…?” Jacob called and shook my head.
“No, just… bring me back to Sam’s…”

When we finally got to Sam’s I nice the small crowd wait for me on the porch. Emily, Embry, Paul, Jared, Quil and even Sam were just standing there on the wooden plaque. I quickly jumped off the motorbike and ran up to the porch, not once looking back at Jacob or even acknowledging him as he followed me to the others.
