WITH A HAND TANGLED IN HER HAIR AND THE OTHER WITH HER HIP IN ITS FIRM GRIP, BELLA SIGHS BLISSFULLY AND FEELS HERSELF MELT INTO HER SHEETS. She feels Luke's mouth turn up at the corners and the feeling of him smiling into the kiss makes her gasp and forget her own name.
This has been their ritual for the past few days, and Bella can't find a reason to complain. At school, their intertwined hands and endearing flirting are the source of many whispers and raised eyebrows. Their friends are nothing but supportive, shooing away onlookers and shutting down hurtful rumors that pop up about them. After football practice, during which Bella does her homework in the bleachers, they head back to the Swan-Dwyer residence for dinner before retreating up to her room where they "study" for a few hours until Luke has to go home.
Bella's never been in a romantic relationship before, and it is nothing like she'd ever thought. He never called her that night after he dropped her off from the movies, and with a heavy heart and maybe a few tears Bella chalked it up to a misunderstanding and vowed to stay as far away from Lucas Hemmings as she possibly could.
The next day, she walked outside to catch the bus to school only to find Luke leaning against his truck, all honey-blond hair and tinted sunglasses and leather jacket. Bella felt like she was in a movie as she climbed in, looking at him shyly from behind a curtain of hair.
"Sorry I didn't call last night, love," he immediately said as he closed the driver's side door and started the engine. "Knocked out as soon as I got home." He then leaned over and pressed a lingering kiss to her cheek before shifting the truck into first gear and peeling out of the driveway. "You look beautiful, by the way."
And Bella felt like the world's most dense idiot, and she promised herself she wouldn't second guess him again.
Now, as he kisses her, Luke rolls his hard, muscled body against hers, and Bella's eyes roll back in her head. This, she decides, is her new favorite feeling in the world.
