"Norma Calhoun?" A woman's voice echoed through the isle.
Norma looked up and saw a somewhat familiar face but it wasn't completely clear.
"It's really you! You look so young!" The young woman stated, smiling a bright smile.
"Maggie?" Norma asked, finally matching a name with a face.
"Yes, it's me," She responded, looking Norma up and down.
"You look great! How've you been? How's your family?" Norma questioned, finally putting a small smile on her face.
"I've been great. As for my family, my father has died and my mother as well, but keith is still here," Maggie explained, looking over at the baby cooing in his small seat.
"This is my son and I'm so sorry about your parents," Norma stated, looking at the shocked girl.
"You had a kid! But you're so young," Maggie stated.
Norma clenched her jaw and held back her rude remarks.
"I actually had two," Norma responded, looking at her son.
"Wow, that's crazy. You and Alex did a good job," Maggie said, giggling to the thought of the most popular couple the town had had.
Norma lost her smile as the sadness set in, "Actually, they aren't Alex's kids. Him and I broke up and went our separate ways.".
Maggie gasped as guilt and shock washed over her.
"Norma, I had no idea," Maggie whispered
"It's alright. We still love each other but in more of a friend way," Norma explained, giving a faint smile.
Maggie went to answer but was cut off by a huge beast, the one they called Keith.
"Let's go, Maggie!" Keith snapped
"Alright, just let me say goodbye to Norma," Maggie responded, keeping her calm demeanor.
"Norma? Norma Calhoun?" Keith asked, walking over to the two women.
"Hi, Keith," Norma greeted hesitantly.
"Wow, you haven't aged a bit. You're what? Twenty-Five?" Keith asked, a smirk on his face.
"I'm twenty-two," Norma corrected, looking at her sweet baby.
"Wow, are you and Alex still together?" Keith chuckled.
Norma's emotions were getting the best of her. She wanted to run away.
"N-No, we broke up," Norma responded, her voice small.
"Aw that sucks, but at least he's giving everyone else a chance. Bob Paris would probably get with you; I know I would." Keith laughed.
Norma forced a smile.
"So where are you staying?" Keith asked
"Oh, I bought the Seafairer motel. They were about to take it down but I got it before that happened," Norma explained, watching as Maggie gave a small smile and Keith stayed silent.
"You can't be serious," Keith grumbled.
Something inside the man clicked and he felt the need to attack and get angry. Maggie noticed his change and acted quickly.
"We're happy someone as nice as you bought it. Now, my brother and I have to go, but I'm so glad I saw you. Hopefully we can catch up more," Maggie said hurriedly, pushing her brother away from Norma.
-
"How was shopping?" Alex chuckled as they put the things into Norma's trunk.
"Fine," Norma responded nonchalantly.
"Is everything okay?" Alex asked, scrunching his eyebrows together.
"I'm fine," Norma responded, avoiding Alex's glare.
"Okay, well, I was thinking that tomorrow night we can go on that promised date," Alex stated, excitement in his voice as he lightened the mood.
"Okay, at what time?" Norma asked, shutting the trunk and looking at Alex.
"Seven," Alex responded, his smirk never leaving his face.
"That'll work," Norma smiled, looking into Alex's sparkling eyes.
"Mom!" Dylan called from inside the car.
"Yes?" Norma asked, turning over to face her son.
"Can I ride with Mr. Alex?" Dylan asked, hope in his eyes.
Norma looked at Alex with a questioning stare.
"Yeah, that's fine," Alex responded.
Dylan smiled wide and got out of the car almost immediately. He ran over to Alex's car, that was behind Norma's, and got into the back as soon as Alex unlocked the car.
Alex went to walk over to the car but Norma grabbed his hand and pulled him to her. They were extremely close, closer than they expected to be.
"Drive safe," Norma whispered, feeling butterflies going crazy in her stomach.
"I will, Mrs. Bates," Alex whispered back, feeling the need to close the distance.
As they very slowly got closer, a very loud woman called Alex's name making the pair slowly separate.
"Alex! Baby! I'm so glad to see you!" The woman stated, walking over to Alex.
"Rebecca," Alex stated with little enthusiasm.
"I missed you so much. It's been a few days since I've seen you," The redheaded woman whined, wrapping her pale and skinny arms around Alex's waist.
"I've been busy," Alex responded, pulling away from the woman's grip.
"With what?" Rebecca asked with an eyebrow raised.
"I'm helping an old friend with decorating," Alex responded, looking at Norma with a smile.
Rebecca looked at the beautiful blonde woman that stood next to Alex. Jealousy ran through her; she refused to be replaced by another woman.
-
It was now twelve in the morning and Norma had been thinking about what everyone had been saying. She couldn't believe people actually thought her and Alex were still together. It made her sad and angry knowing that her and Alex might not ever get back to the way they were before.
That redheaded woman made if obvious that Alex only saw Norma as a friend; that would explain why he was being so nice.
Norma was brought out of her deep thinking when she heard movement in the kitchen. Norma got up from the couch and fixed her tan nightgown.
As she made her way into the kitchen, she saw nothing. She thought it was her mind playing tricks on her so she turned the light off and went back to sit on the couch.
Norma slowly sat then laid down, shutting her eyes as sleep consumed her.
-
Norma woke up to the sound of Norman crying and quickly got up off the couch. As she walked to the steps, she saw a polaroid picture of her sleeping on the floor. She quickly picked it up and examined it. She felt uneasy looking at it.
It was only three in the morning and as she walked up steps; more and more pictures were gathered and they led to her bedroom.
Norma ran to her bedroom and gasped at the sight.
