Chapter 11

After Alex had left, she went and took a shower, trying to take the feeling of disgust off of her. As she stood in the shower, she thought about how things were with her and Alex; obviously he stilled loved her, but there were many things clouding that judgement.
For starters, that Rebecca lady. Obviously Alex and her had relations but it seemed to Norma that he wasn't very interested. But what if she was wrong? What if he didn't really miss her?
Norma rolled her eyes and turned the shower off, then getting out and drying off. As Norma put on a new silk nightgown, she heard a small and quiet knock on the front door.
Norma's heart skipped multiple beats as she ran down the stairs excitedly. Before she opened the door, she slowed down and took a deep breath.
She opened the first door and then the second, revealing a tired looking Alex.
Norma moved to the side, Alex smiled and walked inside, then waiting while Norma shut the door. The two then walked to the living room and sat down.
"Are you okay?" Alex asked, looking at Norma's demeanor.
"Oh yeah, I'm fine. I'm just shaken up, but I'll live," Norma responded, giving a small smile.
It went silent before Norma's thoughts took control and suddenly she had a million questions to ask.
"Are you seeing someone?" Norma asked, looking down at the beautiful diamond ring on her hand.
Alex looked at Norma like she was crazy, "What?"
"That woman- the woman that was all over you when we went shopping- are you guys dating?" Norma asked, feeling shy but looking into the deep brown eyes she dearly loved.
"No. Her and I were never together. We started talking a few weeks after my ex wife and I divorced," Alex explained
"Okay, I was just wondering," Norma stated, never breaking the gaze she had with the man in front of her.
"She has a tendency to think she owns me," Alex chuckled, rolling his eyes and looking down at Norma's hand.
Norma forced a smile and rolled her eyes. Almost instantly, another thought popped up in her head.
"How did you know Keith was here? Did you follow him?" Norma questioned, an eyebrow raised.
Alex cleared his throat, "Maggie told me. She was begging me to check on you after he left and I don't think I've ever driven so fast.".
Norma grabbed Alex's hand and squeezed it, "Thank you for saving me.".
Alex nodded and looked down at the floor; he still felt ashamed for not coming earlier and it felt like it was his fault.
"Hey," Norma whispered, bringing his chin up with her index finger, "don't blame yourself. It wasn't anyone's fault. You still saved me. You saved me before he did more than what he wanted to do.".
Alex squeezed Norma's hand and pulled her to him. Norma smiled a little bit bigger than she had been. Once Norma was nose to nose with Alex, she shut her eyes and leaned in, barely connecting their lips. She then pulled back but Alex lunged forward and connected their lips fully.
Heaven. Norma kept that word in her head, knowing that this was what it felt like. The feeling of being loved and safe.

Norma laid on Alex chest as they laid in bed. They hadn't had sex nor done anything too intimate, just sweet and soft kisses.
As she laid there, she traced shapes on Alex's chest, then glancing at the clock that read five-thirty.
"Sleep," Alex whispered, his eyes shut as his arms wrapped around Norma's waist.
Norma nodded and tried to get closer to Alex, which wasn't technically possible.
Norma started drifting off to sleep and right before the darkness of her mind took her completely, she heard Alex whisper something.
He had said he loved her and always will. In that moment, Norma should've reacted but her mind was stronger and brought her to a dreamless slumber.

"Dylan," Norma called, walking into the kitchen as she tied her robe.
"Mr. Alex made us breakfast!" Dylan stated, his mouth full of food.
Norma smiled as she nodded and looked at Norman who was cooing in his highchair.
"What's all this?" Norma asked, smiling at Alex who handed her a plate.
"I thought since, I stayed the 'night', I should make breakfast in return," Alex explained, smiling wide.
Norma playfully rolled her eyes and punched Alex's arm lightly.

"Be good for Ms. Maggie and make sure you go to sleep on time, Dylan," Norma said, looking down at Dylan.
"I will," Dylan replied.
Norma smiled and nodded, kissing the top of Dylan's head and walking out of the door with Alex behind her.

"Where are we going?" Norma asked, looking out of her window.
"It's a surprise," Alex chuckled as he drove down an empty street.
Norma nodded and gave a small smile. She felt like she was underdressed and could've put something on that looked fancier.
She had chosen a short, skin tight, black dress with classic black heels.
After a couple more minutes, they pulled up on the side of the road and parked there. Norma looked around and scrunched her eyes. The place looked oddly familiar but nothing was ringing a bell.
Norma turned to Alex who was smiling like a kid.
"Where are we?" Norma asked, scrunching her nose and eyebrows.
"You'll see. Come on, let's go," Alex responded, excitement obvious in his voice.
Norma slowly nodded her head and opened her door. She was about to get out but Alex quickly grabbed her waist and lifted her out of the car, slowly putting her on the ground.
Norma giggled as Alex shut the door quickly and locked the car, then grabbing Norma's hand and pulling her into tall, dead grass.
"Close your eyes," Alex whispered, guiding Norma.
"Okay," Norma responded in a whisper, shutting her eyes and putting a hand over them.
After two more minutes of walking, they stopped.
"Open," Alex instructed, looking at the gorgeous woman in front of him.
Norma opened her eyes quickly and removed her hand, gasping at the sight. She looked at Alex with teary eyes; she felt overwhelmed by the view in front of her.
She then pulled Alex towards her and kissed him. He kissed her back with so much love and Norma felt as if her heart couldn't handle all the emotions she was feeling all at once.
