Jorge's POV
i had no clue what had just happened. the doctors said it was just anxiety and asthma but i'm only 13 years old and i feel fine, besides the breathing part. i took my inhaler, i didn't exercise, what was wrong with me? my mom took me to the hospital and i couldn't breathe, so i grabbed a pencil and paper to write things instead of saying them.on my way to the hospital i could finally talk. "great, now i get to carry around a pencil and paper even though i don't need it." i said to myself. we walked into the hospital and sat in the waiting room. there were a lot of people, which i expected considering its summer. my mom and i sat down next to a boy and his mother. he had black hair and brown eyes and his mom was pretty.
we kinda bumped feet while sitting next to each other. "sorry" we both said in unison, and then laughed because we accidentally said it in unison. "well, hi, i'm benji." the boy stuck out his hand and i looked at it for a second before saying "hello, i'm jorge, but it's jeyjey for short. like j-e-y j-e-y" he smiled at that. "well, nice to meet you jeyjey."
we sat for a ew minutes, silent. i didn't know how to respond so i asked," so why are you at the hospital, if you don't mind me asking?" he looked down at his shoe. "my doctor said my sickness is getting worse so we have to take some tests, it might be permanent they said. i don't know" he spoke and his words ran together, it was clear he didn't wanna talk about it.
"how about we go to the vending machines and walk around and stuff?" i asked him. this could give me a chance to make more friends. he nodded yes. "hey mom, can we?" she heard the entire conversation and nodded with a yes, as well as benjis mom.
"come on, let's go." benji said, leading the way. we started walking towards the vending machines and we were so hungry. "i forgot to ask how old you were." benji said, like he was asking a question. "i'm 13." i spoke. "well i'm 14. i thought you were like way younger than that." benji sounds so excited that we were around the same age. that's cute. like cute in a puppy dog way, not a romantic way.
anyways, we grabbed our snacks and walked back to the waiting room but we took the long way. we talked about our favourite everything, like our favourite colour, food, animal, number, etc. it was awesome getting my mind off of this stuff, i hope it was helping him too.
