Mina was always used to waking up by the burning sunbeams dancing around on her soft and delicate skin that peeked through the curtnais of her room's window when she was back in her home, the luxurious and ridiculously big for three people Ahn-Myoui villa.
But today, that wasn't really the case. Mina had been forced by her mother to come back home during break and spend some time with her family as her father's birthday was coming up. The girl didn't care one bit about her father, but had to respect her mother's wish. She had grown up being told to never disrespect her, and she loved her, even though she chose the worst of men to make a family with. At least their marriage wasn't going that well latetly, they might as well divorce, Mina thought when she first stepped into the house.
When her parents got married, both rich enough to buy the whole world, her mother refused to take Mina's father surname to do justice to her family back in Japan. The same thing happened when Mina was born, her mother insisted in the girl using Myoui as her last name, saying it is unique and carries history to it. The Myouis were and still are to this day emperors and it would've been a shame for the emperor's granddaughter not having his name. He was already furious about his daughter leaving the country to marry a foreigner, so she at least had to honour him by naming her children after him.
"Goodmorning, my precious." her mother said, walking into her room before the sun had even raised. Today it was her father's birthday, the day she could barely get through because of the fact that her mother made her do everything.
It was a family tradition her mother had came up with the day Mina was old enough to realize what birthdays meant. Every year in her husband's birthday, miss Myoui would give a day off to all the people working in the villa--cooks, gardeners, cleaners and even the butler--and would spend the day doing those chores with her daughter in order to 'bond'. Or that was at what her mother thought, because Mina was the only one doing the chores while the older female talked to the phone about work.
So no, there was no bonding over it. Though Mina always enjoyed taking care of her father on his special day, until she realized he wasn't worth it. He wasn't worth of being taken care of, of being loved by his daughter. He was simply not worth it.
"Not today mother, I'm not in the mood." Mina said, bringing her covers up to her face and turning her back on her mother.
Even if she was out of school for a couple of months due to break and a squatting taking place, she couldn't bring herself to stay energized. Not when she was there and having spent the whole night talking to Chaeyoung over the phone.
"Okiagaru!" her mother hissed "We have a lot of things to do."
(A/N: 起き上がる[Okiagaru]= Get up)Mina groaned and pushed herself out of the bed. She knew to never mess with her mother whenever she spoke in her native language--Japanese--as it was a sign of her raising anger that if not helped, could blow up in your face with a very big and obnoxious breakdown.
The girl hurried to the shower and then to dress up, barely being able to keep her eyes open. It was too early, probably around five in the morning, and she wasn't ready to clean the whole three-storied house while also doing some additional chores and, of course, cook. All by herself.
"You're finally here," Mina's mother squelead as the girl tiredly walked down the last flight of stairs "Your father just left and is on his way to the school because of this nonsense with the squatting that has been going on." she said, looking as her daughter grabbed a croissant from the plate on the kitchen counter.
"Yeah, bullshit." Mina mocked, teeth biting into the pastry, tasting all the goodness while praying Chaeyoung got a chance to throw rocks at her father.
The squatting in their school was happening for a reason unknown to Mina, although Chaeyoung tried to explain. The latter was taking a part in it, as she always does, even though Mina insisted in her not getting evolved. She could easily loose her scholarship and get kicked out of the school if she got in trouble.
"Language!" her mother reminded her, fingers typing away on her phone "He will be back for lunch hopefully, so we approximately have-" she stopped to look at her watch "-around eight hours to complete all the chores."
"And what exactly are those chores?" the girl asked only to receive an eye roll from her mother.
"Apart from getting ready, those." the woman spoke and she pointed over a long piece of paper that rested under the plate with the croissants Mina was eating.
The young female's eyes almost popped out of her skull when she saw the chores she was made to do by her mother, that consisted of: cleaning all the rooms in all three floors, all five bathrooms, halls, living room, dining room, her parents offices. Take care of the garden, make sure there are no leaves in the pool, take out their four dogs for a walk. Later, cook a full course meal with double desert, make the table, decorate and last but not least get ready before 1 PM so she can wrap her father's presents.
"Are you cr-" Mina sighed, stopping herself before she said anything harsh that would make her mother angry and rushed to start working.
After taking the necessary tools and plugged in her earphones to her phone, she shuffled her 9 hour long playlist and started cleaning, beginning from the third floor. She knew this day wouldn't go well, but had no other option than to suck it up, do all the cleaning and cooking so she can leave the place as soon as possible.
Over what seemed like ages, Mina had finished with all the cleaning inside and out of the house, the only chores left on her list being the pool, the dogs, the cooking--thank God her mother had at least decorated the house--and getting ready. However, the clock was at almost 1 PM as she made her way near the pool, sweat running down her face.
When her father's car halted to a stop at it's parking spot, Mina was busy getting the leaves out of the pool while also humming to her favorite song playing. The girl hadn't realized what time it was nor that her father was making his way towards her.
With a tap on her shoulder, Mina turned around as she took off her earphones. Her tired expression got replaced with the one of disgust when locking eyes with her father, who offered her a sweet smile.
"Thank you for doing all of this," he said "Your mother can be a little pushy sometimes."
"Yeah, right." Mina rolled her eyes and began to walk away, until her father's hand came in contact with her wrist. Pulling it slightly.
"Can we talk?" professor Ahn asked "It's the first time after you've graduated highschool you're back home and I know you don't like talking in school."
"No, we can't," the girl breathed out "There's nothing we need to talk about anyway."
"Mina, please," the man pleaded, his hand still holding Mina's "I need to apologize, for what happened back then. I want us to be like we used to."
"No need to apologize, we will never be like we used to be either way," Mina bitterly chuckled "Happy birthday, dad." the girl sighed, removing her wrist from her father's hold and exiting the residence still drenched in sweat.
