Short but the paragraphs are looooonnngg lel get ready for a bit of background. Maybe someone will find this Chapter cute because it's hard to write soft little scenes for me ^^,
Just realized it's 2023 words so actually not that short lmao
Even in such windy weather, the streets became crowded with monsters preparing for the one year anniversary of monster kind coming to the surface. Chara recognized every face as she looked through the small crowd of monsters cleaning up around the roads the parades would take place through. They all smiled happily preparing by setting up extra signs and hanging up fancy light decorations. To the demons belief the parade or festival would take place mainly all day with a break around twelve since it'd be such a warm day. At the end there'd be a speech from Asgore and a party at the park. She'd heard Asgore and Toriel discussing it after dinner two days ago.
Curiosity pricked at her heels and her eyes glanced around for the park. She wanted to see how they'd set up the stage. Did they hang lights around the branches like they were christmas trees? Or maybe they roped around the branches like vines? Chara shuffled her hands in her pockets with a sigh. She really wanted to see what they'd plan but her and Sans were already occupied with getting lunch.
"Whatcha looking for?" Sans voice made her glance back at the skeleton. He had set down the little white puppy after they'd left the house and now it looped around his legs energetically. Chara only squinted at it, not sure if she enjoyed the idea of the dog being around which had scared her so badly earlier.
The demon shook her head, "Nothing." She said letting the wind brush strands of hair across her cheeks softly tickling her face.
She'd always enjoyed the more stormy weather. The strange scent of rain smelled nice and as a child she enjoyed making herself dirty in the large puddles they'd create. Sometimes it was difficult to tell how deep they were yet the demon found that was exactly why she loved them. The rain always scared the rest of the world away which meant for as long as water fell from the clouds, the world was hers.
Her favorite though, had to be when thunder and lightening came. Chara smiled breathing out a laugh. As a child she enjoyed being scared out of her wits from the roar of the clouds. Hearing the stories of people being electrocuted from fierce bolts of lightening made her tremble whenever a storm would roll around. But she loved it. She liked to idea of being scared. The thrill of feeling her legs shake so badly they almost gave out underneath herself, the twisting and turning of anxiety in her stomach mixing her insides up preparing vomit, the pale color of her face when she was so frightened she was covered in paralyzing shock, it all was enjoyable for her younger self. And it all started from the first simple crack of lightening when she was younger, alone in a pitch black house where she was too young and small to reach any of the lights. The only way to cope with fear was to make it fun.
Well, back then it had been her only way. She was young and the idea of digging sharp objects into her skin didn't come until her mother told her to. Which was one of the memories Chara refused to think of. Even as she glanced up at the dark clouds wondering if that touch of cold on her cheeks was rain or just her body warning her she was getting cold, she began to wonder when she stopped thinking of fear as fun. Why she stopped seeing it as a fun rollercoaster of emotions that was just so magical to experience. There were no storms in the underground, never even a shake of an earthquake so she never knew what happened on the surface. Well she didn't care either but still.
Fear to her now was something she couldn't stand. The idea of feeling her chest pound and her head fluff with cotton until she felt so light headed she passed out made her upset. Chara used any mechanism she could think of just to get that mixing in her stomach to stop because it fucked with any control she had over herself. Feeling her body tremble like and earthquake and her legs buckle out from under her as if she was horribly ill made the demon shake her head with frustration because it scared her beyond imagination to think about wanting to be scared. She refused to even acknowledge that now, older and with a new family, she truly was the biggest wuss she'd ever known. It would be upsetting to anyone to know any possible thing in the world could frighten them so badly they'd break into panic attacks.
