Araluen

Araluen lives under a monarchy, King William currently on the throne and Princess Evelyn soon to succeed him. The kingdom is separated into fifty fiefs (districts or cities, if you prefer) that are lead by a baron.

Every fief has its craft masters- the diplomats, scribes, cooks, and knights. At the age of 16, all teenagers are set up before these craft masters to become their apprentices. If not chosen to be an apprentice, that teenager either takes upon their parent's job or becomes a farmer. Unless, of course, a ranger takes interest in the child.

Their currency consists of gold, silver, and copper coins. Most adults spent their days working and nights in the local tavern. It had once been a popular belief that women could not succeed the throne or be knights and rangers, but that was a long time ago- put to death after the rebellion. Now, men and women are equal, times turning more progressive.

Skandia

Across the sea from Araluen is Skandia, a much more tough and cold country. Each ship has a Skirl, a captain, that may eventually advance up to a Jarl- which is basically a nobleman. The Jarl's make up a council that works with and under the Oberjarl- an elected 'king.' A Hiffman is the advisor of the Oberjarl. Most citizens live freely and can do as they wish but they swear allegiance to the Oberjarl and Jarls.

Known to raid and kidnap in other countries, Skandians are feared, warriors. They keep slaves and their ships are their lives. The country is in a long-lasting winter, the cities cold as is everything else but the harbour

At the age of sixteen, all boys and girls (women joining just a few years back) begin Brotherband training. Split into several groups of about seventeen, the teams train for almost a year. Taught to fight, sail, and navigate- during the year of training they are taught to be true Skandians.
