Hello, my name is Dove Paige and I am your average teenager. Except for a few things. My mother died three years ago and my father died when I was five. After my mom passed, I went into foster care. I found out shortly that I didn't want to be there anymore, so I got emancipated. Now, I live on my own.
In the rules of being emancipated, you have to go to school. So, I am trying to graduate as soon as I can; which is in about five months. I'm going to move somewhere warmer. It's so cold here. I hate this town. Too many memories.
Today is my first day back to school from winter break. Everyone is talking about how much fun they had with their family. It doesn't bother me though, I'm happy that they're  happy. Everyone deserves a family.
"Class, we have a new student. This is Axel", Mrs. Marten said as I looked up to see a boy with dirty blond hair and the bluest eyes I have ever seen. He was very attractive but you could barely tell from the horrible look he had on his face. He looked very angry.
"You can take a seat by Miss Paige", she pointed beside me. He let out a sigh and came over to sit beside me.
"I'm Dove Paige", I said smiling. He looked at me, then nodded.
"You have really big eyes", he said. I gave him a funny look.
"Sorry, I just never saw an actual person with those big of eyes before" he said. It made me laugh a little.
"Yeah, it probably looks funny", I reply. Looking away, I couldn't help but think about how my mother always told me how funny looking I was because of my big brown eyes.
"I wouldn't say that", he says. Which made me look back at him, curiously.
"My name is Axel James", he says as he smiles at me. I was blushing not knowing why.

*Bell rings*
That means class is over and now it's time for lunch. I got up and walked out into the hall putting my books back into my locker. Grabbing the book I was reading currently and my lunch.
I always ate my lunch outside up against this big tree we have at our school. A huge oak tree. It's bark is made up of so many mixtures of browns; smokey brown, lighter browns, and even burgundy in some sections. The braches are so long, they're long enough to shade the entire lunch area when spring hits and the leaves return. It's my favorite spot. I smile everyday on the way to my tree. I know I should eat with some friends but honestly, I don't have many friends.
Actually, I have one friend and that's Andrew. Andy for short. He is always too busy chasing whichever person is entertaining  him that day. I'm just too busy to have any more friends so I just sit at my tree and read.
Which is fine by me. I work forty hours a week on top of going to school. I have to keep up with all my bills, my groceries, and keeping my house clean. I'm just fine the way it is.
I watch as my classmates play around, which makes me smile. Opening my book,  I started reading the book that always drew me in. Soon, I was on the same adventures as Gideon. I was running away from-
"What are you doing out here by yourself", Axel says pulling me from my book. I looked at him, his eyes were even more blue outside than they were inside.
"I'm reading while I eat my lunch", I say as I close my book.
"Why do you eat out here by yourself", he asks. I looked over at my classmates. I don't really have a simple answer so instead I say nothing. He sighs.
"Can I sit with you" he questions. I smile.
"Of course." I say. He sits down pulling out a brown sack lunch from his bag.
"Tell me about yourself." He looks at me full of curiosity.
"What do you want to know?" I ask as he puts a perfectly plump red grape into his mouth.
"Well, for starters, all I know about you is that you like to read, you have big brown eyes, and blonde hair. So, something new." he says. I smile looking down.
"My hair is brown," I say, matter-of-fact like. He looks at me confused.
"I dye it."
"Why?", he asks. The school bell rings.
"Lunch is over," I say with a cheeky grin.
"I'll see you later."  I get up to walk away but he grabs my hand stopping me.
"Why do you dye it?", he asks again. I turn to look at him and smile once more.
"Because my mother's hair was brown."
