I woke up to my alarm going off. With a loud sigh, I got up and went straight to the shower. I always turned the water on the coldest of colds, it wakes me up. After that, I get my clothes on and I'm ready to go. Grabbing a breakfast shake before I head out the door.
Pulling up in my old car, I park in my "allowed" parking spot at our school. Not everyone gets one. They changed it just last year to where you have to pay for the full year to park in a spot. I guess it helps make things easier. I look around, there's not a lot of cars parked. I must be early. I head to my locker to get my books so I can just go to homeroom and read before school starts. As I walk into Room 101, I see a familiar face. It's Axel, staring out the window.
"Hey", I say. He looks up at me. A smile creeps across his face when he realizes it's me.
"Good morning, Dove", I sit down beside him.
"How did you get such a great name", he asks.
"Like Axel is ordinary." I shoot back with a sinister grin.
"I'll tell you how I got my name if you tell me how you got yours", he says poking at me. I nod in agreement.
"My mother never wanted to have a kid. So when she got pregnant, she hated it. My father was really excited though. He decorated my nursery and put little doves on the walls. When it came time to name me she never came up with a name so he named me, Dove", I say explaining to him. He looks at me with the same pitiful look everyone always gives me when I speak about my mother.
"What about you", I ask quickly, trying to change the subject.
"My mom likes Axl Rose, but liked the spelling A-x-e-l better", he says with a giggle. I just smile at him.
"What's your middle name" he asks, still looking at me. Not once has he removed his gaze.
"I don't have one", I say with a shrug.
"No way!"
"Yes way. What about you?"
"Michael." he replies.
"Axel Michael James. I like that."
"I like you", he says. I feel a sudden rush of heat throughout my face. I know my face is beet red.
"What" I ask, stammering.
"I said, I like it too. What did you think I said?"
"N-nothing." At this point, I know he can tell I'm blushing.
"Dove, are you alright your face is really red", Mrs. Marten asks out of nowhere, making me jump. I hadn't realized she had even came into the room.
"Yes ma'am", I reply. Axel chuckles.
Other students start coming into the class room. I try not to look at Axel; I feel so dumb. I started to fill out my worksheet that we were given trying not to think about what just happened. The good thing is everyone else also had a worksheet. Which made it a little easier to focus on.
I felt something against my hand. I look over to see it's. He poked me with his pinky finger again. I looked at him and instantly got lost in the beautiful blue eyes of his. I felt as if they would pierce right through me if I didn't look away.
"You look good with your hair done like that", he whispers to me leaning in close. I could smell hints of spearmint on his breath. I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. It was just pulled back.
"Thank you but it's really not special", I say a little too loud, almost as if I'm trying to get my point across.
"It's special because it's on you."
I can't help but feel the sudden rush of blood back to my face.
"Watch yourself. Someone is gonna ask why you are red again!"
Shoving him a little too hard, he falls to the ground from his chair. With everyone laughing around us, he just sits there joining in with them. Not a care in the world, he gets up and nudges me before taking his place in his seat again.
"That'll cost you lunch", he says.
"Alright, I'll buy you lunch", I said. He shakes his head.
"No, I don't want you to buy me lunch," he stops and looks at me with plot in his eyes, "I want you to have lunch with me till I say to stop."
"Oh."
"Oh, yeah."
That's when I realized I was doomed.
