School is over for me. I get out a little earlier than everyone else to get to work. I have to be there by 3 so I leave school at 1. It gives me plenty of time to get to work. I usually go home to shower before I go in. Then I head to the book store where I work and read til I start my shift.
The book store has a huge section of tables, long ones and short ones. They had all different colors on them. There are shelves that wrap around the room with books basically over-flowing so we have extra shelves in the back room for storage. Up front, there's a big desk where we check out customers.
That's what I'm doing now. I finally finished my book that I've been reading for the last week. I sat there thinking about how amazing the book was. Blown away that they could make something so wonderful. That's when I heard his voice. Axel.
I looked over the shelf to see him standing there talking to Hannah, my manager. I walked over to get close so I could hear what they were saying.
"Yes, we need another 3-11 worker. Could you work then", Hannah asked him. He nodded.
"Yes ma'am. Like I said, my mom is a librarian so I have plenty of experience with working in a book store.", he reassures her. He's going to work with me. My heart starts to beat fast. No stop, you don't have time for this.
Hannah saw me. She walks to where I'm standing.
"This is Dove, she will be your night coworker", she tells Axel. He turns to see me and his smile grows a thousand times bigger.
"Nice to meet you", he says winking at me.
I nod.
"Dove, could you possibly train him tonight and let me know how he does?", she asks picking up her bag to leave.
"Of course", I say. She shoots me a smile.
"Great! I'll see you guys later", she exclaims as she walks out the store.I spent a couple of hours showing him how to work our computer and how our books are set up. Now it's time for my break. I go to have a seat at the table in the seating area. Getting out my chicken sandwich, I start to read a new book.
"What's up with the whole book thing", Axel asks. I look up not realizing he had walked over.
"I like to read", I say. He just scoffs.
"No I like to read. A librarian likes to read. You? You're on a whole other level", he says with a grin.
"You like to read?", I ask him. He smirks at me.
"Why else would I work here", he says making me laugh a little.
"What kind of books are you into?", I ask, genuinely wanting to know. He seems the type to like Horror or Sci-Fi.
"All kinds. I love mystery books, though. My favorite has to be A Secret Place. I also love romance books like Pride and Prejudice. Oh, and of course erotic books like Fifty Shades of Grey", he says looking at me deep. I blush, hiding my face.
"Oh wow", I say shocked. "I never met a boy who likes to read."
"I was second in class at my old school", he says a little too proud, like he's trying to impress me.
"This is why we need to get to know each other better", he says.
"Yeah", I reply.
"What's your favorite book", he asks. I know he sees how offended I look right now. How could he ask me such a thing?
"I could never just choose one it usually changes from book to book. There are so many different genres and different books for everything. I can't just choose."
"So you don't have any that always stay on your mind", he asks. I've never really thought about it until now.
"To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice, The Hunger Games, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.", I smile thinking about my answer. Yeah, it was a good one.
"Those are the four I can never get out of my mind", I tell him.
"You love Pride and Prejudice, too", he asks. Tilting his head slightly.
"Yes, I do".
Smiling at me, he says, "I knew we would have stuff in common."
