The wind was pleasantly warm as it blew by Kirishima. The breeze ruffled his hair, his normal gelled up style not present. It wasn't that he'd purposely forgotten about it, it was more like he didn't have to the time to.
His mind briefly went back to this morning - or 3 o'clock. He'd been sleeping peacefully when his alarm went off. Like many people, Kirishima had let it play for a bit before checking his phone. When he looked at the time, he had had a moment where he was at complete peace and then, just as unexpected as the alarm, he was in utter disarray.
Maybe if he'd calmed down and gone through his morning routine in an orderly fashion, he wouldn't have forgotten to do so much. Sadly, that wasn't how Kirishima rolled. Instead of gathering his things like a rational human being, he'd thrown himself out of bed. In his flurry of movements, he had ended up with his back to the ground and with his blankets entangled haphazardly between his legs.
Afterwards, he rushed through a shower, put on a casual outfit that showed that he cared, but not to much. For that outfit, he'd settled with a pair of simple skinny jeans, a red flannel button up, and his favorite red high top Converse. To throw it all together, he'd tied his hair up in a loose pony tail. Before he left the house though, he was sure to grab drinks for both boys. He didn't want to be buried six feet under that sand because he didn't bring something.
Even now, as he was standing in the parking lot just up the hill from the lake, he wondered if he should have wore something better. Of course, he had his swim trunks on underneath his jeans, just in case Bakugou wanted to go swimming, but that didn't exactly count as an "outfit".
He sighed and brushed a few loose strands of hair out of his face as he took a step towards the concrete stairs that led down the hill and to the sandy beach surrounding the lake.
Kirishima had to admit, it was a great day to go to be out and about. For most of the summer it had been nothing but scorching heat. It was as if the gods had adjusted the thermostat for once.
As he descended the stairs, he couldn't help the nervous churning of his stomach. He reassured himself that he was only nervous because of the circumstance and not because he was meeting with Bakugou.
Maybe the reassurance would have worked if he hadn't heard an oddly familiar voice call out his name. At first, he didn't register what was happening but as soon as he turned his head, his eyes were captured by beautiful crimson iris's.
Kirishima hadn't prepared his mind to see Bakugou this soon and couldn't help but draw blanks when Bakugou greeted him in his usual aloof way. When the blonde took note of Kirishima's wordless state, he arched an eyebrow, leaned forward, and waved his hand in front of the red heads face.
"Hello? Earth to hair for brains? Are we going to stand on the steps or are we going to actually go down to the lake?"
The question seemed to snap him from his trance and he rubbed the back of his neck, an apologetic smile crossing his face. "Sorry Bakugou! I think I got a little distracted."
Bakugou scoffed, "Idiot, what the hell is there to get distracted by?" You. That's what Kirishima wanted to say. Instead, he simply clamped his mouth shut and gave an unknowing shrug.
The blonde rolled his eyes at the response but didn't press further, instead electing to head down the steps in front of Kirishima while changing the conversation topic. "So, what in the hell did you bring," he questioned, throwing a glance over his shoulder.
"Oh, nothing special really. I got a regular coke for me and a Cream Soda for you," Kirishima responded lightly as he read the label on the drinks.
"What makes you think I like Cream Soda, idiot?" As Bakugou said the words, he made no effort to look at Kirishima, instead keeping his eyes on the path in front of him
Kirishima laughed and slid into the empty spot next to Bakugou, casting a glance at him, "Well, everytime you come into the store, you grab the same things. I noticed you buy this a lot so I figured you'd like one."
Kirishima swore he was seeing things when a flush of red crossed the others cheeks. If Katuski's shoulders hadn't hunched as he tried to hide his face, Kirishima would have passed it off as the sun but nonetheless, the action had sealed the moment.
"If you don't like it you can have mine! I don't mind! I mean, uh, if you want. I could run and buy another drink if you want me to, or maybe-" Kirishima's rambling was abruptly cut off by Bakugou turning to him and pressing a finger to his lips.
"Kirishima- just shut up," he said, a quiet laugh escaping his lips as a punctuation of the sentence. To others it may have sounded like a normal laugh, but to Kirishima, holy hell was it amazing.
If anyone had asked him before this moment what he thought of Katuski Bakugou, he would have told them that he was a good guy underneath all of his stubbornness and that he would be glad to have him as a friend. But now, he couldn't deny it anymore.
He had a killer crush on the angry blonde and he couldn't do anything about it. Just that one little laugh made Kirishima feel like he'd found that puzzle piece that fit perfectly. And hell, he hoped he could finish that puzzle.
