Chapter 19
The light above burns my eyes. I sit up and cover them with my hand. I bite my lip, pushing myself to my feet. Someone knocks on the glass in front of me. I squint my eyes open. Bryan stands on the other side of the glass. He mouths something I cannot make out. I take a shaky step towards him. He wears a blue shirt and black pants. His bare feet are bruised and reddened. I feel tears well up in my eyes. A blaring noise sounds over a loudspeaker.A sharp shock rings through my body. I feel my knees give way as my eyes widen. I grit my teeth and lean forward on my hands. Bryan quickly steps back from the glass. I look up at him, then push myself back up again. Another shock is sent up my spine. I let out a cry and I'm sent back to my knees. Bryan's eyes widen and he touches the glass in front of him. I shake my head, pushing myself up. Another shock. I let out a scream and I'm sent back to the floor. I strain my eyes up. I make out what's around me. White tile surrounds me on the floor. To my right there is a blue line dividing the room. I bite my lip and push myself to my knees. Another shock is sent through me. I grit my teeth and start to crawl.
Bryan follows me to the right. I cross over the blue line just as another shock is sent up my legs. I collapse on my side and take a breath. I brace for another shock. It doesn't come. I open my eyes and look up at my brother. His eyes are foggy with tears, and he presses a hand to the glass. I push myself up and approach him.
"Bryan. Are you ok?" I ask. 'What?' He mouths. Soundproof glass. I bite my lip. I step up to the glass, and let out a breath of warm air. The glass in front of me fogs up. I draw out the words on the glass. A small smile appears on his face. He wipes his tears away with his arm. He does the same. 'Are you ok?'I nod. I write out another message. 'Are you hurt?'
He tears his glance away from me. Looking down at the floor. He turns around and lifts up his shirt. Multiple nicks and bruises covering his back. I bite my lip. I begin to write out 'What did they do?'
A blinding pain shoots up through my legs. I let out a cry and I sink to my knees.
Bryan whips around and kneels down to be on my level. Panic fills his eyes. I feel another shock go through me and I let out a louder cry. I push myself up and look around. I race over to the other side of the blue line. I stand there, my hands shake in anticipation. I bite my lip, just as another shock rings through me. This one is worse. I let a scream out and drop to the ground. Bryan pounds on the glass in front of me.
I push myself up, and drag myself across the blue line again. Another shock. I collapse. Bryan pounds on the glass again. I sit up, reaching out to touch the glass. I feel another shock. I fall backwards, my vision hazing in and out. I squint my eyes open. Bryan's cheeks are stained with tears. He buries his head in his hands. I reach out towards him, just as another shock is sent through me. I feel my body tense up, shaking as more electricity flows through me. I let out a cough. I lay down onto my back and stare up at the ceiling. Soon, the shocks become a series of pulses, that cause my body to seize up. I force my eyes open. "Y-you should. You should've just- just hung me when- when you had the ch-chance." I scream upwards. My head hits to the floor as tears stream down my cheeks. My breathing is shaky. My eyes close. My head tilts to the side and I let unconsciousness overtake me
