I chuckled a little when I remembered when I first met her parents. I don't think I've impressed her dad, Rob, much at the time.
Now, I guess you could say he is starting to like me. He might, but he won't show it. My mind went over each detail about the first dinner we had with them...
-Flashback-
"Ok, just be yourself. You'll be absolutely fine," Rachael assured me.
"Ok, be myself," I said, but more to myself.
Rachael kissed my cheek and reached up for the key that I guess was hiding. She couldn't reach it, so I picked her up by her waist. She giggled, but grabbed the key.
"I got it you Bub," she said.
"Yeah, that's how you treat the amazing guy who just helped you get the key," I joked.
"Ok, thank you," she kisses me.
The front door opens, Rachael immediately pulls away, looking down at her shoes.
"Who is this boy?" I hear her father say.
"Ashton," she says quietly. She straitens up and looks her father in the eye. "My boyfriend."
"Ah, this is the boy who has claimed my daughter as his own," he says looking me up and down. Not in pervert-y way, but in a do-you-look-ok way.
"No, sir. I don't own her. She is just my girlfriend. Which kinda sounds like I do, but I don't. I just really like her a-" I rambled.
"Stop, that's enough," he told me. "Come in," he adds sternly.
Rachael glowers at him while I smile at her mother. I hear frustrated whispers going on between her and her dad.
"Hello, you must be Ashton, right?" She asked.
"Yes, Ma'am," I answer.
She laughs then says, "call me Jane."
"Ok, Ma- Jane," I stutter.
"Would you be a darling, and get a spoon from the dishwasher."
Without an answer I walk over to the utensils and grab a spoon, and pass it to Jane.
"Thank you, dear."
I nod in her direction.
I had to use the bathroom, but they couldn't know that I've been here before.
"Uh, where is the bathroom?" I ask Jane.
"Just down this hallway. The last door," she tells me.
I walk the way to the bathroom and do my business.
After I'm done, I wash my hands. I open the door, and yelp when I see Rachael's father standing there.
"Who gave you the right to walk through my house?" He more stated, than queried.
"Uh, Ma-Jane said I could," I told him.
"Honey," he yells.
"Yes?" She tells back.
"You gave this boy permission to go to the bathroom, and to call you 'Jane'?" He asked glowering at me.
"Yes. Yes I did," she yelled then added,"He is not a boy. He is a young man."
I smile at that. You know since she was standing up for me. I stop smiling when Rachael's dad points down the hall, signaling for me to leave the bathroom. While walking, I accident- ally trip on my own feet, knocking down photos. They all fall on me. Most of the photo frames crack though. Great.
I look at Rachael's dad; he gives me a disapproving look. Jane gives me a what's-going-on face. Rachael just stands there trying to hide the giggles escaping her mouth in her sleeve.
-End of Flashback-
Lets just say that I was very nervous for the next one. It wasn't as easy when her dad thought that all I wanted to do with Rachael was sleep with her. Which I didn't. I wanted to be the one who helps her through her times of trouble. I wanted to be a good boyfriend. I hope I was.
I hope I'll be able to be a good boyfriend to her in the future.
