Chapter 15

Chapter Fifteen :

After that whole incident last night, Andrew has been very distant. He's barely talked to me today and whenever I sit beside him he moves away.

Did I upset him? 'Of course you did! You kicked him in his manhood. He's pissed obviously.'

He's on one end of the couch and I'm on the other. I can't take this anymore. I get up and grab my keys and walk out the door. I can't live in silence. The TV is having a signal problem, my phone is dead, and we have no music. Sittin' in a house where the only noise is each other's breathing is not working for me. Not at all.

I might as well go to store since I'm out. I pull up to Walmart. I get Andy's hoodie from the back seat. Well, I guess it's my hoodie now. I throw it over me and go inside.

Okay, what do I need? I check the notepad. Juice. I walk to the juice section and it's even colder. I drop apple juice and orange juice in the cart.

I go around getting everything on the list when I bump into someone.

"Sorry" I say picking up the soda I dropped.

I look up. It's Mikey. Awkward. I hand him his soda.

"Thanks, shorty" he winks. Great. Just great.

"You're welcome"

Silence....  Awkward silence.  Just great.

"I should get going... " I start to slowly push my buggy to the register.

"Wait, Marissa"

I stop. "What Mike?"that comes out harsher than I thought.

"I'm having a party tomorrow... you're invited if you want to come"

A party. Doesn't sound that bad. 'Well, Andrew is mad at me anyway so why not?'

"Yeah, I'll be there" i smile.

"Great! it starts at 8" he gives me a quick hug and starts walking backwards. "I'll be looking for you" he winks again.

As Mikey jogs away I walk to the register and pay for my things. I shove bags In the back seat and drive back home.

When I get inside I throw chips at Andrew.

"You're welcome" I say and rush upstairs.

I go to my room and flip on my bed. I wonder what mum and dad are doing? I wonder what Carlo is doing? I haven't talked to him in a while. I should go visit them. It's only like 2 pm.

I push up on my elbows and just as I'm about to get up I fall back down. Nah I'm to lazy. I'll just call them.

The phone, the phone is ringing!

I quickly pick it up. "Hello?"

"Hi, mum. How are you?"

"Oh hi, sweetie! I'm great how are you?"

"I'm fine. Is Carlo there? I wanted to talk to him"

"No, he's at aunt Margo's house for the month . You know he does camp every year after the school year is over"

"Oh yeah, I totally forgot.  My bad"

"He'll be back soon"

"I miss my little monkey face" I really do.

Mum laughs. "Those nicknames"

"We have the best nicknames for each other. Hey, mom is dad there? "

"No, he's at work. No one is home but me"

"Well, be safe okay? I don't want no one stealing you again" I joke.

"I'll be fine, okay. Don't worry about me. Have fun with Andrew" yeah right fun with the guy who is ignoring me.

"Oh.... alright"

I wait for her to talk.

"Is everything alright between you two?" she asks.

"Perfect. Everything is perfect. " I lie.

"If you say so. I gotta go, talk to you later.  Okay?"

"Okay, love you mum"

"Love you too Rissa"

I hang up and close my eyes. Isn't nap time just the most fantastic thing? Whoever made it needs to be given ten awards and one sweet potato pie. Back in 2nd grade when teachers had to force me to take nap it was crazy. If I would have known how much I'd miss it, maybe I would of been more appreciative.

I close my eyes and just wish everything goes right in the party.
