Part 13 - Kat's POV

I woke to the sound of thunder and glanced up to see storm clouds. If I stayed here I was definitely going to get drenched. So I quickly grabbed my bag and ran toward town. I was hoping a motel was open but nothing was, only the same gas station. Just as I made it through the door the black clouds gave way to torrential rain.

'Id say you're quite lucky M'am,' the same long bearded country guy said from behind the counter.

I looked at him, did he think he was funny? I just ignored him and went to sit at the stools near the window. The rain really was coming down. My mind wandered to the last storm I encountered.

It was when Peter was questioning me about why I had crossed their borders. Okay I'll stop sugar coating it, what Peter did was practically torture. Even though the memory pisses me off to no end, it's still not the worst one I had. Besides, sadly if it weren't for Peter capturing me, I would not have met Derek.

Derek. I wondered what he was doing now. He surely wouldn't be sitting around moping like I was. He was most likely busy with pack duties and didn't think twice about my absence.

I placed a hand to my heart, those thoughts brought me physical pain those days. Was I stupid for running away? Maybe. But I did it for him and his pack. 'You did this for you,' my brain vexed. Stupid conscious, she was probably right.

An annoying voice chimed in then, 'Sorry M'am, you can't take shelter in me gas station less you buy somethin.'

'I don't want anything,' I spun around to see the country bumpkin standing strangely close to me.

'Surely there is somethin you wanna get.' It was a statement and to be honest he was getting on my nerves.

Was it not enough to put up with my stupid conscious and her smart remarks? No of course it wasn't, the universe just wants to test my patience.

'Im not buying 'anythin',' I copied his country twang and he wasn't impressed.

'Sorry M'am thems the rules,' his voice was final as he continued to stare back at me.

He didn't know what a dangerous game he was playing, my temper was short and I have been known to throw a good fit. 'Fine, I'll leave!'

I flashed my teeth and glared at him. Who on earth kicks a girl out in a thunderstorm!?

'Wait M'am!' He called and I damn near shifted right there.

'WHAT!?' I could feel my canines growing and I tried desperately to make sure my blue eyes didn't turn a shade darker.

'Maybe y'all can stay a bit.' He sounded exasperated, like my departure would cause him trouble.

Why the hell did he insist on me leaving and then now he's had a change of heart? Something didnt seem right.

'Y'all bipolar. I'm leaving and that's it!' I walked toward the automatic doors only to find they wouldn't open. I heard him move behind me and I turned slowly

'Sorry M'am but I can't let you do that,' his face twisted with conflict.

'You mean you can't let me go. Geez I can't handle this anymore, open the damn door!' I screamed, making him flinch.

I could smell other scents in the confined space of the gas station. 'Well now isn't this interesting,' I spat as four more guys entered from the back.

Two guys stood each side of the cashier, but then parted for a tall more muscular man. He was their Alpha. 'Hello, I'm Aaron. I'm the Alpha of High Falls pack.'
