Heyy! Welcome back! Happy Tuesday! I'm actually writing this Monday so, this feels weird but, Oh WeLl.
Enjoy:)
-Les❤️"Trust me, there are many girls in New Mexico with brown hair named Kristy."
I nervously laughed, "Oh, um...okay."
This felt weird.
I knew I saw her before, I just didn't know when.
She certainly wasn't one of Summers' friends. Summers didn't hang around people who...giggled.
"Well," Kristy grinned, "You're standing in front of a map, you should at least tell me why. I didn't even catch your name."
Scratching the back of my neck, I answered, "I'm Henry. And, I'm looking for White Rock. If we're anywhere near that..."
Kristy laughed, "No, not at all."
"Oh, okay." This was awkward. It felt like I had said 'okay' and 'oh' at least forty times in the last two minutes.
She looked into my eyes, her cheeks pinker than before.
"Okay," I waved, "Bye."
Walking quickly, I heard her yell, "I could take you!"
I turned around, confused as why she would want to.
"If you want," Kristy walked toward me, "I've got a car. It won't cost you a dime."
June said not to get into cars with strangers!
We don't have any other choice!
"Sure," I smiled, "Thank you."
She walked outside, "It's just down here, anyway."
Henry, I do not have a good feeling about this.
I can't just run away! We've already committed-
Dude, shut up! Did you hear what she just said!
I nodded and smiled, not hearing a word of what she just said, as I hopped into the car.
"Really? How many?" Kristy asked.
"Wait, I'm sorry, what did you-"
"I asked, how many siblings do you have?"
I shrugged, "I'm an only child."
She started the car and drove off. Her GPS acting as the only thing breaking the uncomfortable silence.
"So," Kristy looked at me, "How long have you lived here?"
"Only a few weeks."
She nodded and asked me more questions.
Favorite color, do I have pets, what do I most love about New Mexico, stuff like that.
It felt like she was Jimmy Fallon and I was the special guest.
"If you've only been here for a few weeks, why are you in New Mexico? And, why do you want to get to White Rock?"
I smiled, "I'm going to see my-"
"Wanna get food?" She interrupted.
"Um, sure. Do they have burgies?"
Kristy looked confused, "Burgies?"
She turned to the right, to a plaza with many restaurants.
I nodded, "The bread with the meat and cheese and tomato and lettuce and the sauce thingy and-"
"A burger." She said.
I nodded smiling, "Yes...those things."
Kristy stopped at a resturant and took me inside.
It was a Mexican resturant, which I hadn't really been to.
Since Summer lived in White Rock, there wasn't many cultural things.
Well, I think.
We both love The Yellow Heart, there was nothing passed that.
"Is this the best burger you've tasted?" Kristy snapped me out of my thoughts.
"No," I took a sip of water, "The Yellow Heart's burgies are best."
"Maybe we should go there next time."
"I don't think so, I mostly go with-"
She cleared her throat, "Check please!"
I stared, confused.
"We should get going," Kristy said in a hurry, "It's already eight o'clock. The hotel around here will be booked."
Nodding, she paid, and we walked outside.
* * *
"Two rooms please."
The woman at the desk typed it on the computer and gave us the keys.
I took mine and walked up stairs, finding my room quickly.
Kristy's room was across the hall.
I had forgotten I still had the light blue suit on, it was still nice and crisp.
I rubbed my eyes and got into bed, staring at the window.
Remembering the night's cars and lights outside Summers' window, I felt my eyes water.
All of the memories, all of the laughs, cries, would be gone.
Time is supposed to heal because we slowly forget.
We forget the little details that make those moments so special.
Soon, I would forgot our conversations.
The bad jokes we used to tell.
What onzies we were wearing on that night we had our first kiss...
A tear slipped down my cheek as I felt the bed cold, without anyone for me to steal warmth from.
Except this suit.
* * *
I felt my bed rumble, tilting over to one side.
Turning around, I found Kristy, putting the comforter over her.
Getting, slowly, a bit too close to me.
I rolled over, and so did she.
Her feet were on the brim of touching mine and I arouse in a panick.
Quickly, yet quietly, I got on the small couch.
I felt my body scream in pain, as my bones awkwardly adjusted to the hard cushions.
Though, this wasn't all that...good, one thing was clear.
If I had to pick a comfy bed but, have to share it with someone beside Summers, or a rock-solid couch...
I'd pick that crusty couch a thousand times.
*
Yes, a bit short, I know. But, hey! I have to keep you on your feet. Why'd Kristy do that? Isn't she this innocent person who wants to help a guy out?
We'll see..
Love you Beauty,
-Les❤️
