"Bye Mom! Bye Paul! I'll be back if I don't die!"
I closed the door to the apartment and turned, only to find Peter doing the same.
"Should I be worried about that?" He asked, walking with me to the stairs.
"No, I can take care of myself. Only person I have to worry about killing me is my brother. Where are you headed?"
"Ned just got a new Lego set and we're going to put it together. You can come if you want."
"I'd love to, but I wouldn't love to. I'm gonna go to Manhattan and see the Empire State Building...again. It's a yearly thing at this point." Mainly I'm supposed to be present for the vote against my life, courtesy of Zeus, and then if I don't die I get my rewards from the war.
Peter led me to where his aunt's car was parked.
"Oh, that's cool. I just have to- Mr Stark?"
I followed his gaze to the guy looking through a tool box.
"Peter, do you think you could help me with this?"
"What are you doing?" Peter stared wide eyed.
"Fixing the car."
"You don't have to do that! We're going to get it fixed soon and I mean this is way below your pay grade."
"I'm a mechanic. I can do this. Now come over here and jack the car up."
Peter smiled sheepishly at me. "Well, have fun at the Empire State Building. Don't throw any pennies off the top."
"Pennies don't have enough mass to kill!" I called as I walked outside.
What? I'm not an idiot. And I mean Annabeth went on a whole rant about it.
I walked for a little bit and instead of calling Blackjack or Mrs O'Leary, I decided to take some mortal transportation. Which I soon regretted.
By the time I was in the lobby, I was trembling. I made my way to the front desk and knocked on the counter.
"What?"
"Key." I leaned across the counter. "I have an audience with the Olympian council so I'd appreciate it if you just cut the there is no such thing as the six hundredth floor crap and just give me the key."
"Whose kid?"
"Poseidon."
He closed his book and without a word handed me the key. "You know how this goes. Make sure no one else is in the elevator with you and return the key when you're done."
I nodded and walked to the elevator. The music was still horrible, but if that's the worst thing about today, I'll be happy.
I made my way along the paths, doing my best not to look at the buildings. The doors to the council room swung open as I approached, probably because they're expecting me.
I walked in, a heavy weight settling in my chest. My footsteps echoed as I moved infront of my dad.
"You still refuse to acknowledge the head of this house first?" Zeus growled.
"We have been over this brother, it is only right that she defers to me. Perseus, try to stay quiet while we discuss this matter. "
I nodded. I just sat there as my dad calmly came up with counterpoints to anything that was said against me, Apollo, Artemis, and Hermes helping him.
But as always with the council, it was the calm before the storm.
Yelling echoed off of the walls and I started shaking again.
