Chapter 48

Ava sat alone in the dark apartment one night. She had her head in her hands as she breathed slowly. She had left work early without letting Connor know and Cornelius had the kids until he would bring them over. It was getting past the kids bedtime and it wasn't helping her nerves. She closed her eyes again breathing slowly. She heard keys in the lock and talking so she got up slowly and walked over "oh, didn't know you were home" Cornelius said "I wasn't feeling well so I came home. I'll be ok" she took Athaelia from him and took her to change. "Can I ask you something?" Cornelius asked as he changed Callen and got him to bed as she laid Athaelia down and walked out "what is it?" He pointed to the couch and she sat down and he sat in the chair "don't get mad if you don't want to answer just say so and I'll drop it" she nodded "why do you favor Athaelia over Callen? You do spend time with him but you go towards her more unless it's your time with him" Ava shook her head "it's not the time or place for me to answer you. Connor will be home soon and I don't want to....." he nodded "another time them. I'll make you some tea and I'll leave" she nodded closing her eyes. He sat the tea on the table kissed her head and left.

Ava sipped the tea slowly when Connor came in "Ava??!!" He called "shhh....I'm on the couch. Don't wake the kids" he dropped his bag and went to the living room and looked at her. "I'm fine. I just got overwhelmed or something. I left a little early but it was okayed, just not by you" he sat down and felt her head "what's going on? You have been off for awhile" She shook her head "I don't know. I don't want to do anything. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow but I don't feel like going" he nodded "I'm worried. But your pregnant could it be that?" She nodded "could be. I don't know Connor. I miss being me and I haven't since before I had Callen" he moved and sat beside her "go to the doctor. Let them check you" she laid on him and closed her eyes "have you eaten?" She shook her head "your dad made me tea. I'm not hungry anyways." He kissed her head and held her "come on, I'll take you to bed" she nodded getting up slowly and went to their room. He got her clothes and helped her change and tucked her in. He changed and went to get something to eat then climbed into bed. He held her close hoping everything would be ok. He kissed her head and feel asleep.

Connor woke up every time Ava ran to the bathroom "avey, you aren't keeping anything down. Let me call my sister and let me take you to the hospital" she shook her head as he helped her back to bed and got her new clothes then went to get her something to drink and called Claire "she's going to kill me but she's been throwing up the past two hours and can't keep anything down." Claire laughed "if I show up she will know your taking her and she will know you want to take her" he sighed "I don't want her to lose the baby. I don't think she can handle it" Ava walked in slowly "Connor" he turned "get here NOW!!!!" He hung up and rushed to her "Ava!!?? Hey what happened?" She shook her head "I don't know" he took her back to the bedroom and helped her changed and got new bedding down and went to start a load. He opened the door when he heard Claire knock "what happened?" She asked handing him a jug of sweet tea sprite and a few other things "I had all this at home maybe it will help" he nodded as Ava walked back out "How about I sit with Ava Connor and you get some sleep. If anything happens I'll wake you. Maybe I can help you out" He looked at Ava who nodded he kissed her head and headed to bed.

Claire sat down and Ava followed "what's going on Ava?" She closed her eyes "I don't know. I can't keep anything down and it scares me but I don't want to go to the hospital. I don't feel like I need to." Claire looked at her "maybe you need to for Connor. He's worried." Ava sat back and rubbed her stomach "always. I love him for it. It's so hard though."Claire looked at her "maybe I ate something. I feel better now. I just don't want to spend hours in the hospital having test done. I already have a doctors appointment tomorrow. And he knows and knows I don't want to go but now he will make sure I go" Claire got up and got her tea and cracker "try a little and see what happens" she said seeing Ava's look "we can start with the tea" she took it and took a sip "your dad was here dropping the kids off and he asked me a hard question." Claire looked at her "changing the subject. Ok then, what did he say?" She shook her head "I have to think about it. It hurt when he asked." She nodded "well if you need me and want to talk I'm here." Ava closed her eyes "I know. I'm going to sleep. I think I can" Claire got a blanket and covered her up "try and sleep, I'll be here" she curled up and slept and Claire slept in the chair until Connor woke her "hey, thanks for last night" she smiled getting up and went to the kitchen with him "I do think you need to talk to her, she worries just as much as you do but holds back" he nodded "thank you, I have the day off today and dad is taking the kids." Claire nodded "I'm helping" he walked her to the door "thank you" she smiled leaving. Connor went to start the kids breakfast as he watched Ava sleep.
