five // pre-apocalypse romance

Javier had been at the batting cages all day, unable to cope with the news that he had been laid off. His girlfriend had tried to calm him down, but he had stormed away from their small stone home, which had beautiful green vines climbing up the walls.

Javier groaned as he swung the bat, hitting the ball spot on. The batting cages were empty, aside from him. He decided he had had enough, making sure the pitching machine was off.

Before he could leave, a rattling noise startled him, he turned his head and saw his lovely girlfriend behind him, her arms wrapped around his stomach and her head resting against his back.

"I thought I'd find you here," she said, squeezing him tighter. "Are you okay?"

Javier sighed, removing the girl's hands from him and turning around to face her, smiling down at her. "I'm okay now that you're here. I'm sorry for storming out on you."

"I get it, you're upset. You lost your job, Javi."

"Yeah, no need to remind me..."

"Sorry," she apologized, shifting her lips and sighing softly. (Y/N)'s face lit up.

"What?"

"Do you want to get ice cream? My treat!" the girl smiled, causing Javier's heart to melt. He had always loved her smile, it was his favorite thing about his beautiful girlfriend.

Javier nodded, "I'll pay, you came all the way down here."

"No, I insist! Since I am now the provider of the house hold." (Y/N) chuckled and opened the batting cage's door, which was warm to the touch due to the warm sun that was shining down.

"Hey, too soon."

The couple began to walk to the cute little ice cream cart and ordered their favorite ice creams. Javier got oreo and (Y/N) got peanut butter.

"Let me try some of yours," Javier stuck his tongue out as his girlfriend put the ice cream cone under his tongue. Javier's face turned to disgust. "I don't understand how you can eat that."

"You love peanut butter!" she retaliated, pulling her ice cream cone back and began licking it.

"Not frozen peanut butter."

"Then don't ask to try it!"

The two of them began to laugh as the sun was setting on the horizon, ending off an emotional rollercoaster of a day.

But there was still more to come.

Later on, the two of them were walking home, hand in hand. (Y/N) traveled on the curb, trying her hardest to balance, but Javier had to catch her a few times.

Once they had made it to their small house, Javier and (Y/N) went separate ways, Javier had went upstairs to change, whereas (Y/N) waited for him on their back porch.

(Y/N) sat on their porch swing and swung her legs back and forth, also slightly moving the swing that she sat on. She stared off into the stars before closing her eyes, thinking of how much she loved Javier. She had met him through her best friend, Kate, who was married to his brother. Javier and (Y/N) had hit it off very quickly, they talked almost nonstop on the phone for over a week before Javier had gathered the courage to ask her on a date. (Y/N) remembered how long she spent on her hair, makeup and her outfit, now she was so comfortable with Javier that she didn't care how she looked.

She was so lost in her thoughts of this beautiful man that she didn't even notice him sit down beside her until he had tapped her on the shoulder.

"Javi..." she mumbled, clearly a bit tired.

"I have something to ask you," Javier breathed deeply before getting up and walking in front of the girl and getting down on one knee.

"Jav-"

"(Y/N), you are the most beautiful person inside and out and I am so glad I met you. Waking up to you every day has been a dream come true." he started. "Things will be tough for a little bit, but I want to be able to give you the best life possible." Javier brung out his hands, opening a little box with a beautiful ring inside of it. "(Y/N), would you give me the honor of calling you my wife?"

"Yes! Yes! Oh my god, yes!" (Y/N) cried, falling forward and collapsing onto Javier's neck, kissing him everywhere she could possibly reach.

"I love you so much, (Y/N)."

"I love you too, Javi, so fucking much."
