After much hard work and endless toil, AP exams came and went meaning that high school was just about over. All that was left was prom and graduation and then one long summer... one long summer that would end with the separation of Caitlin from the love of her life. It wasn't going to be easy but she and Barry and talked about it a lot and tried to figure out how to keep themselves from falling apart.
But for tonight, the teenager put all that behind her and decided to have some fun. It was senior prom and she got to spend it with Barry and that was all that she wanted to think about right now. After changing with the other girls at Tess' house, they headed down to her boyfriend's place where she got to see him for the first time in a few days. She made sure to look just right after finding a dress that she loved and knew he would love too. It was long with a light blue skirt and with a white bodice and spaghetti straps on her shoulders. It was simple and light and exactly the kind of thing she wanted.
The other girls had done her hair and makeup and before she knew it Caitlin saw herself in the mirror as the person she had always wanted to be. She only hoped that Barry would like it too.
And sure he did when he saw her after opening the front door to let all the girls in. All the parents cooed as they saw their babies all grown up, looking smart and beautiful. They all wanted photos and photos galore not allowing the teenagers a moment to themselves.
"You look... well, you look amazing... beautiful" he stumbled as she approached him with a soft smile.
"You look very handsome too" she replied, taking his hand in hers as she admired him in his tux. It was a nice sight for her and one she definitely liked.
"Thank you... I have something for you" he said, taking a box with a corsage inside with blue and white flowers. "Tess might have let it slip that you were wearing a blue and white dress so... Well, I thought it best that the corsage match" he continued, taking the flowers from the box and sliding them onto her wrist.
"That's ever so thoughtful of you" Caitlin replied, turning a little pink in the cheeks.
"Aww, what a lovely moment!" Barry's mother cooed along with the snap of her camera.
"Mom, can't you do photos in a minute? Haven't you got enough already? You've been snapping away all afternoon" Barry grumbled in his mother's direction before turning back to his girlfriend once she'd slinked away. "I'm sorry"
"It's alright" she responded gently, squeezing his hand.
"Hey, you're wearing the necklace" he gestured with his free hand to her neck where the necklace he bought her lay.
"Yes, I am though I'm not sure why you're surprised when I wear it every day. Maybe you just can't see it all the time" she giggled, taking a step closer to him.
"Maybe..."
"Where's your sister? I would've thought she'd be running around all over the place with all the excitement going on" Caitlin asked curiously.
"Napping, I think. She had a birthday party to go to this afternoon so she's all worn out. Good thing too otherwise she'd end up creasing my tux" he answered, smiling as she giggled in response.
"Alright, kids, let's get some photos done!"
The group of teenagers grouped together and took a few inside then some in the garden and finally some in front of their car when it arrived. The parents wouldn't stop fussing over their children, lamenting over their babies being all grown up and flying away from the nest. At first, Caitlin was glad that neither of her parents was here to say similar things but then she realised they were only like this because they loved their children so much. Her parents had just asked for a few photos and that was it... They didn't even want to come.
