Yona shivered as the wind blew her direction.
"It's cold, right?" Yoon commented.
Right now, everyone was currently helping to prepare a nice meal. Yoon, Yona and Nawu were washing dishes while the others were gathering firewood to build a fire. Jadira was happily playing with the other children.
Everyone was laughing and having fun helping each other in the village. But a distasteful-looking person along with a large number of soldiers had entered.
"Excuse me. May I bother you for a minute?" He asked.
"An officer of the fire tribe..?" Nawu muttered low enough for only her to hear.
"Where is the village chief?" He asked.
"Th..The chief is over there..." Yoon muttered as he pointed to a direction.
The group of soldiers and the officer had moved away to the directed pointed. As soon as they were out of sight, Yoon ran to the others. Nawu followed after him.
"Hide! Hide!" Yoon shouted desperately.
"What happened?" Hak asked.
"An officer came! That's bad, so you guys absolutely cannot come out!" Yoon explained.
"An officer?" Jaeha chimed in interest.
"Really? Let's see." Hak added.
"Don't show your face, you beasts!" Yoon ordered frantically.
But a loud crash interrupted.
"You can't pay, you say? You want to go without paying them again?" The officer asked harshly as he looked at the chief who was groveling on the floor with a hint of disgust and annoyance.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry!" Was all the village chief could mutter as he kneeled before the superior.
Nawu looked at the scene sadly.
"But the rice crops didn't grow much, and we hardly have enough to eat for ourselves. Taxes on top of that are.." the village chief said as he sat up. But the officer instantly smashed his head to the ground with his foot.
"Hold your tongue!" He ordered.
What an asshole. Nawu thought as she grit her teeth.
"If you can't pay, sell you children off." The officer ordered.
"N-No, I wouldn't!" The village chief argued.
"Master Do-Bal, there's food over there." A soldier announced.
"See? You had some, didn't you?" The officer said as he walked over to the cart filled with food.
"It looks like you don't have any rice, but this will do, right? Carry it out." The officer ordered.
Damn them, those are the food we brought over! Nawu thought as she clenched her fists tightly.
Yoon was trying to calm down the others who seemed as if they were ready for war.
"No! Yoon brought those for us!" A child exclaimed as she clenched onto the officer's robe.
"Move. You're in the way." The officer ordered.
"No!!" The child exclaimed.
"This is the right amount, isn't it? Let's take that child too. Let's sell the children to make up for the insufficient tax."
"Please have mercy! She's a child who knows nothing." The village chief tried to intervene but was kicked down by the soldiers.
"Father! No! Let go!" The child screamed.
"If you don't want this, prepare some rice or money! Let's go."
"Wait." Nawu intervened.
Everyone watched her.
You fool! Why did you go out! Yoon panicked to himself.
She pulled out a bulky pouch. "We don't have any rice."
"But I do have some money."
"See, that's more like it." The officer smiled as he and Nawu walked closer to each other. "Now hand me the money."
"Of course," Nawu said with a smile.
"After you apologize."
"What?" The officer raised his eyes in surprise.
"Apologize to everyone here. You caused such a ruckus." Nawu explained as crossed her arms.
"You! Do you have any idea what you're saying! Me? Apologize to peasants like you!" The officer shouted.
"Well, you're collecting the food we collected. The most you could do is apologize." Nawu raised her hands in the air and rolled her eyes.
"How disrespectful!"
Nawu tossed the bag into the air. It fell back into her hands with a satisfying clink. "You want the money don't you?"
The officer turned quiet.
"All you have to do is apologize."
Nawu smiled mischievously as she pointed to the ground and raised her foot. "Bow down and kiss my shoe. Apologize for being such a jackass and then I'll give you the money."
"You! Do you take me for a fool?!" The officer said as he raised his hand. But before he could hit Nawu, she kneed him in the guts, kicked his crotch and kicked him down to his side. She sat on his back and muttered an oops. The man groaned in pain and agony as he laid on the cold, dirty ground.
"My bad, I just reacted to my instincts." Nawu laughed.
Everyone watched with their mouth open, in complete disbelief of what just happened.
"You! Get off me, you wench!"
"No, I don't feel like it." Nawu clicked her tongue and shrugged.
"Don't worry, Master Do-Bal. I'll get her!" One soldier said as he made advancements. But he was cut down. Blood gushing from the wound.
"S-Something jumped.." he muttered in fear as he clenched his wound, trembling on the dirt ground.
"Who did that?!" Another soldier shouted.
"Hereeeee." A hand raised.
Everyone looked in that direction to see Jaeha.
"It was me." He said.
