Breathlessly, I pulled back from Mizuki. Guilt started to fog my thoughts. Tomoe.
But those thoughts were interrupted by a light that started to radiate around his whole body. That damn chain made it's way to both mine and Mizuki's wrists.
He was now my familiar.
How familiar.
"Well, I wasn't expecting-..."
I pushed my index finger to his lip and stared at him sternly. His shoulders and facial expressions started to relax.
"You listen to my commands." I reminded him. "Only mine."
Mizuki gulped.

I sprinted towards the hotel room. I threw Tomoe's box on my futon and scanned everywhere for a notepad and pen. Why was I becoming frantic? Wasn't I happy to go home? I could be normal again. Right?
But Nanami.
But what about the police. They're probably looking for a missing girl about now. My face is probably more popular on those missing signs than I ever was in my life.
"Mizuki, your brooding aura is radiating from outside," I shouted at him.
"I don't understand why you made me do that to Nanami, " he huffed.
"Do what?" I ran my hands along the tops of the cupboards. "Bingo," I mumbled as I found a yellow notepad. I bought it down and tossed it onto the table.
"Lie to her." Mizuki huffed, "You made me tell her you got attacked by a yokai. Did you see the look on her face? I feel terrible."
"She did it first," I said bluntly. "Besides, she's sticking to the plot." I scribbled the pen on the pad. "That's what we want, okay? She has to save Tomoe and fight ugly fish dude."
Mizuki came into the room and sprawled ours on my futon. The box sticking into his side.
"Gives plenty of time, I guess." Mizuki delicately picked up the wooden box. "Hmm, this smells incredibly powerful."
"Hate to break it to you, but it's not Gucci," I said as I tore one filled piece of paper away from the notebook. I began to scribble down.
"No, it smells," he brought the box to his nose and inhaled its scent, "like ancient spirits."
"You should come over to my house in the real-...never mind." I aggressively tore that piece out, leaving a slight tear in it. Him and my family in one room? Would be a Roast to never remember and never speak of.
"Shit," I mumbled. "How long will Nanami be underwater and saving Tomoe?"
"First of all, under the ocean." He sat up and lay his head on his hand. "And that really depends on her." Mizuki softly spoke.
I looked at the words I wrote on both pieces of papers and kissed them gently. Mizuki better take care of these words. But I won't give them to him yet. I folded them four times and placed them in my backpack.
I knelt on the ground next to Mizuki and looked down at my knees. "I need you to take me somewhere."
"Oh," he cheered, "where? I love adventures."
I chuckled. "The place where it all started."

"So...you're telling me that this is the place where the world will end?"
The bench creaked as we both sat on it simultaneously. Crows squawked above us. The place I met Nanami. The place I was dumped in. I looked at Mizuki. We both started to hysterically laugh.
