20 | Her First Kiss

JAKE'S POV:

WHEN I CLOSE her door I rest my head against the hard surface with a smile etching onto my lips. I shut my eyes thinking about her, thinking about how good her lips felt against mine. Whenever we would kiss, her lips would send my mind into a sensual state of intoxication, urging me to kiss her again and again.

My mind wanders off focusing on what she had just told me, remembering how the golden specks in her big doe eyes sparkled as she spoke, completely mesmerising me.

"You were my first kiss. . ."

I was her first kiss.

Just those five words made me feel ecstatic. Now I can't stop thinking about them, I can't stop thinking about Serena.

It's like she's all I want to think about.

"Jake."

Someone calls my name causing my eyes to snap open immediately, I push off the wooden oak door following the familiar voice down the left - hand side of the corridor.

I realise the voice belongs to Adeline when I see her walking towards me in her long royal blue dressing gown with her matching slippers, her long raven hair cascades neatly down her shoulders gracefully.

A petite girl follows closely behind  and when they both stop in front of me I notice it's the girl who was sat with Serena earlier in the dining hall, I presume they're good friends since they're always hanging out together.

"How is she dear?" Adeline asks with a look of concern, she rests her hand on my shoulder as she continues.
"This kind young lady, Zoe informed me of the incident that happened earlier on in the dining hall."

I turn to Zoe offering her a small smile and she smiles back timidly, fiddling with her polished fingers.

I turn back to Adeline.

"She's, uh, better now I guess." I ponder on what else to say, why was I all of a sudden nervous?  "She's just gone to sleep so I'll just check up on her tomorrow, or something. . ." I trail off. 

"Yes of course dear, I'm glad that she's okay now. The poor girl must have been frightened to death." Adeline frowns rubbing circles on my arm.

Zoe clears her throat speaking up "Thank you, for looking out for my friend."

I send her a brief nod stuffing my hands at the front of my jean pockets.

"I think I'm just gonna head to bed now." She announces gingerly.

Adeline thanks her once again before they both say goodnight to one another, leaving us both.

"Come on," Adeline pats my back before holding her arm out for me to take. "Be a gentleman and walk me back to my room."

"If you weren't already aware, I'm not a gentleman-" Before I can finish the stubborn woman links her arm in mine dragging me along with her.

"Ah, better."

No, not better.

As we walk through the deserted corridors I see her glancing at me a lot from the corner of my eye making me look down at her with a questionable gaze.

"You've grown up so much." She finally speaks smiling broadly at me.
"I remember when you used to be all the way down here Jake." She gestures to her hip chuckling.

"Not this again." I roll my eyes playfully and she laughs at my actions.

"You've grown up to be such a handsome young man." Her thumb rubs circles on my arm lovingly.

I decide to mess with her.

"I'm sorry to break this to you Adeline, but I don't really date older women like yourself- Ow!"
Immediately she swats my arm making me laugh out loud.

She points a finger at me "Behave yourself Mister."

"Sorry." I apologise laughing lightly.

"Oh, speaking about behaving" She begins "Miss Milda your maths teacher told me that you actually went to her class the other day."

Well, Miss Milda's a liar.

"I didn't go willingly. Serena practically dragged my ass in and then Miss Milda forced me to stay, basically holding me hostage in her classroom." I rant.

"Serena's a good girl, I'm glad she's making you go to your classes. That means she cares about you and you equally care about her because your doing to what she says."

I eye her suspiciously wondering what she's getting at "Trying to hint at something?"

We stop at her door and she turns to face me.

There's a mischievous smile playing on her lips "I know that you both like each other, I just hope that by now you've both kissed and confessed your feelings for one another."

I laugh lightly shaking my head at how straight forward she was.

"Judging by that smile I'm guessing that you have." She catches on and I give her short nod confirming her assumption.

She leans in giving my cheek a quick peck before pulling back to look at me.

"I'm proud of you Jake."

I thank her with a small appreciative smile, I was honestly lucky to have someone like Adeline in my life caring for me.

She opens the door to her room stepping inside cooing "Goodnight trouble."

"Goodnight." I chuckle lightly before sauntering off to my own room.

Collapsing onto my bed I switch off the lamp on my bedside table and suddenly darkness engulfs me.

Time to face my demons.

Again.
