Author Note

Can you believe I had to reread this book! I forgot who Hector vs Raul was! Who Josephine was
Imma mess but it's back!!

——

I tiptoed through the mansion until I found a darkened room with a balcony in its rear. I excitedly stepped outside and stare into the distance of the calm summer night; the fresh wind cooling the sweat droplets that had found their way onto my face.

I leaned a lazy elbow against the stone beam, sighing and thinking of the night's event. Seeing all the women Esteban once knew and then the Presidente? It was a bit overwhelming.

"It's nice to escape the night" a voice chimed behind me. I turned around curiously to see it's owner, frowning as I recognized the girl from earlier.

"Oh...Esteban's ex" I sighed, remembering her title from earlier.

"Josephine" she bragged,  pacing to where I stood to introduce herself. She extended her palm to take mine. I politely shook it and turned once more to the horizon.

"So did the presidente kiss you in his office or take you by force" she asked nonchalantly, breaking the air of silence. Of course I decided to play dumb. "I have no idea what you mean" I pouted.

She giggled crazily and leaned against the stone wall that partitioned the balcony  from the adjacent room. Her vibrant brown eyes locked onto mine, then carefully they fell, gently taking in every part of my visage.

"I see why my father likes you" she whispered, stepping close to invade my space. She grabbed my jaw and lifted it, turning my head to face hers. "Pretty, innocent, exotic" she muttered, gently running a finger against my cheek, "he is going to go crazy over you" she cheesed.

I couldn't help but turn red as she spoke of her father's exploits. It seemed as if it was something she was quite familiar with. I snapped my jaw away and stared her down; making sure to hide my anger from her words.

"My father's palette is not compact. He will sleep with anything and anyone." She spat distastefully" "he even slept with my tutor when I was 9" she bragging, smiling as if it was a fond memory.

"He always hated Esteban. He despised him because he saw so much of himself in him; except Esteban is what he wishes he could have been. I only dated Esteban in the beginning to make him mad and it certainly did work" she smirked, taking a small cigarette from her purse, and striking a match to light its end.

"Esteban will dump you like he dumped evey other girl." she muttered.

"Why are you telling me all this?" I interjected, not caring for her words.

"Because. I don't like you Anais." she bragged, puffing a cloud of smoke into the air. " simple as that. I want Esteban back... I love him" she fumed, rapping the ashes into the wind.

"I feel sorry for you" I whispered, seeing the pain in her eyes, "to see the love of your life in the arms of another woman. A woman who is far superior to you. I would be upset too" I tisked, making sure to pat her cheek. She pouted, understanding the impact of my words and threw her cigarette onto the floor to stomp it out.

"Esteban is nothing like that monster you call your father."

"Is he not?"she yelled after me but I ignored her words and lifted my dress to return to the fitting. I wanted to go home.

——-

On the way home, I sat in silence while Esteban bragged about how wonderful the night went. "Anais, I feel like everything is finally falling into place. I met you, the sponsorships, The presidente is finally showing support for me! Hector wants me to go solo but I can't abandon the team!" He smiles, thinking of the future. He turned to me and sneakily kisses me in the carriage, pulling away at the straps of my dress. I moved his hands away but he is persistent. "Esteban not tonight..." I whispered, gently pulling away from him. He furrowed his brows and ran a palm against my forehead.

"Are you okay mi amor? You looked nervous ever since the party. What did the president talk to you about?" he chimed.

"Nothing!" I lied, separating from his reach, "I just...don't feel good" I whispered, making sure I avoided his gaze.

"Are you sure it was nothing he said? I know he can be...forward" he tried to explain. I nodded and look at the moon, trying to force the tears from falling.

Esteban pulled me into his chest and kissed my lips tenderly. "You know you can tell me anything my love?" he smirked, holding both sides of my cheeks with care.

"Yes Esteban I know." I brush him off, resting my head against the window.

"Good" he pulls me into his chest and kisses my head repeatedly until we traveled to his apartment in the city.

The next day

I wake up next to Esteban the next day and smile as I see us entangled into each other's arms.

I couldn't help but smile as I see the gentleness in his face, making sure to shower his neck with kisses. It was Sunday, his only day off from training. Maybe we could get breakfast at the cafe downstairs or go to a nearby park for a picnic. I pulled my blanket off to start my day but he pulled my waist in and engulfed me in his torso. "Esteban!" I screamed, giggling with glee.

"You think you can just leave the bed without me holding you"

"Esteban stop! You faker! I thought you were sleeping " I chuckled as he lifted me up. He carried me into the bathroom, facing me towards the mirror. We smiled at each other through the reflection. He rested his chin against my head, lazily kissing the crown of my head.

-KNOCK KNOCK-

"Who could that be?" I frowned.

"I don't know. We're not expecting someone? It's Sunday" he shrugged, moving to the toilet to pee. I open the door and see a small bouquet of flowers in the door.

"Who was it mi amor?"

"Awww come and see" I smiled, and bent to look at the card. I gasped as thé name written at the front.

"To Anais:

I kept dreaming about you all night. Come to the St Domingo hotel tonight so we can talk. It is very important

El Présidente"

"What was it!" Esteban yelled, screaming over the flush of the toilet. I kicked the bouquet to the next room and slammed the door shut.

"Nothing...they had the wrong door" I chuckled nervously. He nodded warmly and smiled, walking to embrace me.

"I wanna shower" he hinted, pressing his lips against my neck. I smiled nervously and pushed the card between the cushions on the couch. He lifted me up and carried me to the bathroom, slamming the door shut so we could get clean.

A/N

Y'all think Anais will tell Esteban? Or keep it to herself? You never know! She really could tell him ! But just remember the President is very influential and had a big part in Esteban's career.
