We ended our afternoon eating and playing, it was really fun taking care of the kids and it made me smile. After an exhausting day, I bathed the kids and put them to bed after telling them a story. I took a shower and put on black fresh clothes similar but the sweater had a shorter neck.
I tried sleeping but I couldn't, my worries were back, what was Charlie gonna do? Will he hit me like in my dream? I thought while pacing in my room, I finally decided to read a novel, I didn't have my guitar to sing and the place was deadly silent, so I pick the "The ghost I was"
I didn't know how long till Charlie came because I was fully concentrating. I was distracted by the sound of a car in the compound, so I quickly ran to my room. I stayed close to my door listening to everything that was going on. After what seemed like an eternity but only half an hour, I heard footsteps coming toward my door. I ran to the side of my bed, sitting on the floor with the novel on my lap.
"Alex? I thought you were sleeping," Charlie walked in.
"It's too early to sleep," I simply replied.
"OK then, we can have this peep talk that we were long waiting for."
I nodded.
"Can you tell me more about your friend?" I shrugged.
"Don't make me force you, Lex."
"I didn't go anywhere, I was hanging around, trying to get my thoughts clear."
He looked at me suspiciously before speaking, "I don't believe you, if I happen to find out you lied I'll take something painful to you. Yesterday I discovered that the first man was shot and they didn't have a gun, do you walk around with a gun?"
I tried to hide my fear, Charlie was a good cop, why did he have to be my guardian? "No, I saw him like that," I replied.
"Don't you lie to me, Alexander." He furrowed his brows.
"I-i found the gun when I was walking in the alley, I decided to pick it just for protection. And I saw those men on that girl, I warned them before shooting but just after I threw it in the trash can," that was not the biggest lie in my life, but Charlie bought it, he looked like though.
Charlie shook his head, "I'm so very disappointed and I'm sure Jessica is," I felt a pang in my heart at his words.
"First you fought with a student that was armed with a knife, thank God he cut your hand and not your eyes or worst throat. then you were rude to the principal and swear at Margaret, that was rude of you, you could've gotten expelled, and you played a prank on a stranger, not only was the stranger affected many old people could've gotten a heart attack, you also yelled at the stranger cursing in front of the kids, you could've been beating up. Then you snuck out after Margaret clearly said no, if something bad had happened to you yesterday how would we know? Like those guys, they would have hurt you with the gun, not only did you break your curfew you also endangered yourself! Why will you do such for Christ's sake?!" He yelled.
"I'm fine Charlie, by the way, it was not my fault!" I frowned and glared at him.
"Don't you understand? such risk and breaking of rules are not accepted in this family! Stand in the corner please!" Charlie said before walking out.
I stood where I was with no intention of moving. He walked back with a slim thick brown paddle, "what did I say?"
"Y-you can't swat me! I'm not a kid!" I yelled.
"But you are behaving like one, first you'll do me a favor, take off that piercing."
"No! It's cool! And is in my ear!"
