"Umm... Hello everyone my name is Cassidy and thank you for coming out tonight," I smiled into the microphone. My guitar was hanging limp around my neck, and cheers from all over the room greeted me. Wow this looks huge! "This song is called 'Panic Cord' and I hope you like it." Then I started playing.
They all looked at me with wide eyes of anticipation as I was playing the introduction. This was the moment when they would either start paying attention to me or begin talking to their neighbor; my stomach knotted up, but I took a deep breath.
"You kept all the things I threw away," I sang and the crowd cheered causing me to smile.
The rest of the set was a blur. All I remember was smiling a lot and having the time of my life.
"Now, this is my last song; actually the song that got me to where I'm standing right now. Ed is going to put on an amazing show for you all, you are honestly going to be blown away. Anyway, this is a song called 'Home' and I hope to see you all soon," I announced, and stepped away from the microphone to play the introduction. Briefly I looked backstage and saw Ed in the wing watching with a big smile on his face.
I played the rest of the song with a huge smile on my face. After thanking the crowd one more time, I walked backstage to find Ed still there.
"Hey! Shouldn't you be getting ready to go on?" I teased when I got to him.
"I couldn't miss this," he smiled. "You were nervous, really? It didn't look like it, because when people are nervous they usually sound like shit."
"I was so nervous, I almost didn't want to go on," I shrugged. "Did I do okay? I hope I didn't bore your crowd."
"Are you kidding me? You did amazing!" He exclaimed. A tall guy came up behind him, tapped on his shoulder, than whispered something to him. "Hey I have to go get ready to go on, but feel free to go back--I don't think they gave you a dressing room but you can use mine. We all go out after the shows to a pub nearby, you should come!"
"Yeah I think I will, thanks. Thank you for everything!"
"Yep, hey I gotta go, but you killed it out there," then he started running down the hallway to where the dressing rooms are, with the tall guy that talked to him a minute ago hot on his heels.
I took a deep breath and sat down on one of the amp cases that were scattered all around, leaning my guitar up against it. Wow, I can't believe I just did that! There were probably three thousand people out there! My breathing was still heavy and I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins.
My phone that was still in my back pocket buzzed and I took it out, seeing a text from Meghan. "Did you go on yet?" The text read.
"Yeah! It was amazing! The crowd was so great! I wanna do that forever!" I typed back.
"Call me. I wanna hear all about it," she responded. I smiled and headed back to the backstage area, looking for Ed's name on one of the doors.
When I found it I knocked, but when there wasn't an answer I just went in. There wasn't anyone in there (luckily), so I flopped down on the couch that was in the room. In the distance I could hear the beginning chords of "Give Me Love" and the crowd erupting into deafening screams.
I dialed Meghan's number and waited for her to pick up. She picked up after three rings and I smiled.
"Oh my God, you did it!" She yelled as soon as the lines connected.
I laughed, "It was amazing, I was so scared for nothing!"
"Tell me about everything! It should be like I was actually there!" She giggled.
