AN: Sorry for being dead for like- months .3. returning with a oneshot wooo
Drinking game: Take a shot every time Kokichi says "Saihara-Chan"
"Saihara-Chan! Are you excited for next month?"
"Eh..? Uhm...excited for..what exactly?" he asked, genuinely confused as to what the purple-haired male was implying.
"No. Way. Don't tell me that you forgot!!" The smile on Ouma's face had turned into a pout, "I can't believe you! Remember it right now before I send my organization to go after you!!" Shuichi's shoulders perked as he noticed the frustration in the other's tone. 'What am I forgetting??' he thought to himself, feeling extremely guilty for making Kokichi so upset.
"I'm s-sorry..I really don't know.."
Ouma let out a groan and whined, "It's going to be my birthday!" Before the taller male could react, Kokichi burst into fake streams of tears, "I-I thought that Sh-Shumai cared about meee!!"
"Ah- w-wait a minute," Saihara stuttered as he realized something, "If I recall correctly...you never told me when your birthday was."
Saying that out loud, it seemed a bit crazy to Shuichi since he had known the other for a bit over half a year.
He could remember wanting to put DICE behind bars for their previous crimes of vandalism and theft, but their leader's convincing and reasoning of DICE's actions about bringing justice shifted his view on the organization. Especially after finding out behind the misunderstandings and rumors of intense violence actions in DICE that came from the public. Besides, after listening to Ouma himself and doing his own research, DICE has a strict rule against killing others.
'He's not a murderer, he's a childish teenager.'
"..Nishishi!~ Oops, my bad." The purple-haired male wiped away his crocodile tears and had a smile on his face again, "I forgot about that. Well, it's on June 21st! And I expect a *mountain* of presents from my favorite detective!~"
"A-a mountain?"
"Yeah! Unless Saihara-Chan could get me a few really reeeaallly good gifts. As long as it's not boring, I'm okay with it~"
A few moments of silence followed as Shuichi started thinking about the kind of presents Ouma would like. His thoughts were interrupted by Kokichi leaning a closer to him with a grin on his face, "Now that I've told you, you better remember it this time!"
''This time'? But this is the only time he told me his birthday' he internally sighed, and didn't bother pointing that out again as he nodded his head, "Okay, I won't."

It was 4:51am on June 21st. Shuichi was in his office sitting at his desk, fighting against himself as his body and tired eyes begged for him to sleep. He was overwhelmed with grief as he knew that he didn't have a gift for Kokichi's birthday. The whole month was full of him trying to solve cases while desperately thinking of things Ouma would like.
'I'm such a horrible friend..' he told himself constantly when each day passed through the month. Looking over to his watch, he almost began to cry when he saw that it was already close to 5 am.
"I just want to show him how much I care..a-and appreciate him..and.." Shuichi mumbled to himself and felt his face heat up. It was impossible for him to deny it anymore; He had feelings for Kokichi.
He wasn't entirely sure when these emotions began, but it didn't matter that much in his eyes since he wasn't planning on confessing. Saihara valued their friendship too much.
