* * *

Jessica, Jessica. My name was being chanted over and over. It filled my head until I could ear nothing else. Until I woke up.

“Jessica? Jessica say something! Please!” I heard a panicked voice tell me but I refused to open my eyes. A warm hand was holding mine and I tried to focus on that. Tried to remember what had happened.

The man, Alec fighting….it all came back in a rush. My throat choked up and my head swirled with confusion.

I sat up quickly and was looking into a pair of very startled eyes.

“Jess! You’re ok!” Alec’s voice broke out into a grin that lit up his whole face.

Strangely, all I could think about was that he’d called me Jess, as a nickname.

He started to frown in confusion before tilting up my chin so he could properly see your face.

“Something bothering you?”

I slowly got to my feet, ignoring the pain that rocketed through me.

“It’s just…you called me…Jess” I mumbled. I was surprised he actually understood what I said, but what surprised me more was that he started blushing.

“Oh, sorry, if you don’t like it, I wont-“

It was my turn to blush. “No, it’s fine” I stammered, trying to think why it had bothered me in the first place.

I then remembered everything again. “You’ve got some explaining to do” I said to Alec who was smiling but suddenly turned dead serious.

“Not here, it’s not safe. I’ll tell you everything later, I promise” He looked so hot when he was serious, that I had to try and drag my gaze away.

“But Alec, this is my house. I have to stay here” I demanded, suddenly getting anxious. Was he meaning more guys like the one dead on my living room floor would come?

Alec grabbed my hand and held my face in his hand gently, my breathing stopped.

“Jessica, you’re in grave danger every minute you stay here. Trust me on that”

He glared over towards the dead guy.

I closed my eyes and tried to think. “But Alec” His name sent a shiver down my spine. “Why was that guy here? Please, I need to know”

He hesitated and opened his mouth as if he was going to say something then slammed it shut. He gritted his teeth and a look of fury crossed his face.

“HE was here to kill you” He hissed at the guy on the floor as if he could hear him.

I froze, as if cold water had been injected into my veins. Kill me?

“But why?!” My voice was high and squeaky with panic.

Alec saw the look of horror and fear on my face and hugged me into him. “I promise you Jess, no one will get near you, I sware, this is my fault and I will fix it”

“We have to go” He said gently, brushing a strand of hair off my face. “Do you trust me?”

I looked at him for a moment, then scanned my broken house.

“With my life”
