Patrick stood by the edge of the public pool. It was dark out. Completely. And the rain was still pouring.
He stared into his own reflection through the pool water. He looked so down. So broken.Patrick was completely alone that night. No one was in sight. So he did it.
He dunked himself into the water and held his breath. It was so deep that even his 2m body was floating in the water. Was he exhaled, he watched the bubble float to the top. Maybe he wanted to stay here. Even if he was choking. He liked it. Haha. Kinky.
Suddenly, someone jumped into the water, almost kicking him in the face. The mysterious person grabbed him by the waist and yanked him towards them. They threw Patrick towards the top of the pool. He quickly swam to the edge and coughed up chlorine. Gross.
"God, what are you doing?!" the person said. When Patrick turned around, he saw Alex there, drenched in water. "You were about to die!"
Patrick began to cry. A lot. He couldn't control himself. He just hunched over the edge of the pool and cried. Alex swam over to him.
"How did you find me?" Patrick asked in a low voice.
"Because I love you," he answered. Patrick gasped. "And also your Snapchat's on."
"I don't get it..." the taller boy tried to get himself out of the pool, but he seemed to struggle. Either from his broken heart or his really, lanky arms that couldn't support his muscular body. "Why are you here? What are you trying to do?"
"I'm trying to save you," Alex answered.
Patrick peered over to him, "From what?"
"From yourself."
He paddled over to him. When they were close, Patrick felt that buzz again. That familiarity. He didn't want to go back. Or did he? He was so conflicted. He honestly had no idea.
He thought he liked him, but then Alec came along, and now Alec is giving him mixed signals. Patrick couldn't stop thinking about that night. When he lost his butt virginity and he saw Maddy and Alex together at the latter's house. God it was just a mix of emotions.
But when Alex was right in front of him, everything seemed to make sense.
"Alex," he muttered out. The other boy looked at him, then glanced away. "You need to tell me what you think. About us. About this."
Alex is now blushing, but he couldn't come to any conclusion. He just patted him on the shoulder awkwardly and tried to lead him out of the pool. But Patrick wasn't budging. He was still staying afloat by the middle of the pool.
"Come on Pat," Alex encouraged, swimming towards the edge. Patrick was still hesitating. "You're going to get cold and you need to get home anyway."
Patrick wanted to stay there. Together. In the rain. In that public pool. But the more he pushed, the more Alex pushed away. Maybe this wasn't meant to be...
