The alarm went off. Every morning at 7:00 it went off. Not before, not after. Peter needed 45 minutes exactly to get ready for school each morning. Not only was he one of the most nerdy and geeky 17 year olds ever, but he was OCD just as much.
He needed to remember that it was his first day as a senior. Of course that would be an important day!
He woke up and slapped the snooze button. Peter wiped the sleep from his eyes and gave a loud yawn. It was time for him to get ready. Getting up, he walked over to his bathroom to clean himself. After he showered and brushed his teeth, he looked into the mirror and pretended to flex his non existent muscles. Peter often thought to himself that it must take a lot of people a lot of work to be as scrawny as him, because for him, it just came natural.
Peter was a nerd. Not just a nerd, but a total dork...but he loved being a dork. It was...kinda fun. He was the smartest in his class and he had friends that probably would give everything for him. He couldn't ask for anything else.
He put on his clothes and grabbed his backpack. Peter then looked at his watch, and saw that he had a solid twenty minutes before the bus came.
"Heck yeah..." he murmured to himself. "Enough time for breakfast."
Peter hurried down the stairs to see that May and Ben had already fixed him his breakfast. The smell of wheatcakes filled the air. It was rare when his aunt made wheatcakes, but God were they good. To Peter, they were the best in the world.
When you took a bite, you could swear that the heavens opened and angels started singing...
Then again, they were the only wheatcakes that he had ever eaten.
"Wow... Something smells good," Peter said.
"Morning, Peter," May said with a sweet smile. Her messy bun laid on her neck as she fixed Peter's plate.
"Morning, Aunt May," he said back.
Ben was reading his morning newspaper as always, seeing what was going on in Queens. "Morning, champ," Ben said, not daring himself to remove his eyes from his paper.
"Morning, Unc. Anything interesting in the paper today?" Peter asked, shoving a chunk of wheatcake into his mouth.
"Oh the usual. Crime and all sorts of crap," Ben replied. "Who the hell knows what's going on with the world today?"
"Language, Ben," May said while sitting down at the table with her coffee. She was very attractive for a woman in her mid fifties, although you could tell it was early in the morning because she didn't have time to put on her makeup. She always rocked the bun. Aunt May always asked Peter if it looked too old fashioned, but Peter always told her that it looked epic for someone her age.
"Sorry," Ben replied with a chuckle. "Old age must be getting to me." He leaned over to Peter with a smirk. "Next thing you know, she'll be sending me to a nursing home, Pete." Peter chuckled at his uncle's dad joke, trying not to choke on the last wheat cake. May, as always, just rolled her eyes. Ben looked back at the paper and saw something that caught his eye. "Hey, Pete, did you see that there's a science fair at the Lee and Kirby Chemistry Lab? Looks like that's up your alleyway, huh?"
"That's what I thought, too," Peter said. "Harry, Gwen, and I are going to go to it tomorrow. Of course me and Harry, the nerds, are the only ones that really want to go, but of course Gwen is going to tag along no matter what we do."
"Y'know, Pete, maybe you'll finally ask her out one of these days, hmm?" Ben asked with a coy smile. He cleared his throat as he looked at May sarcastically. "For me and your aunt's sake, huh? We'd like some great nieces and nephews." He winked at his wife.
"Ew," Peter scoffed. "As if, Uncle Ben. First of all, although she's been friends with me for who knows how long, she's too popular in school to date someone like me." Ben went to say something else, but Peter, as if reading his mind, cut him off. "And don't even start about MJ. Again... Too popular. Plus, she's in Europe taking acting classes. So... Yeah."
His aunt shook her head. "You call those two popular, but they hang around with, let's face it, nerds like you and Harry," May said choosing her words in the nicest way possible.
"Yeah, you're right, though," Peter said. "No one can figure those two out. From what I've always been able to tell, they're sort of nerds, so I guess that's why they hang out with us... I don't know honestly."
"Well," Ben said, taking his eyes off of his paper, "whatever the reason is, I'm sure they enjoy your company."
Peter smiled as he looked at his empty plate. "I guess so."
As if his timing was impeccable, Peter heard the school bus pull up outside. "Well," he said as he stood up from his chair, "time for me to bust this popsicle stand, guys. Bye, May," he said while giving her a kiss on the cheek. "Later, dude," he said while fistbumping his uncle. "See you this afternoon."
"Bye, Peter," they said one after another as their nephew walked out the door.
May took a sip of her coffee and eyed her husband. "He gets that nerdiness from you, y'know."
Ben smirked. "How's that?" he said while not taking his eyes off of his paper. No one could interrupt his morning reading completely.
May chuckled. "You're the one who always liked that strange science fiction stuff."
"What's wrong with Star Trek and Star Wars?" he said in a sarcastic defensive tone. May smiled and rolled her eyes. "I'm glad that he loves science...just like his dad."
His wife gave a bittersweet smile. "Richard would be proud of him, wouldn't he?" she asked, reassuring.
"Yep," he replied, trying not to cry while remembering his little brother. "Yep he would..."
Peter walked to the yellow school bus that was parked in front of his house. He walked inside to see what he always saw,: kids talking and goofing with each other; either that, or they were making fun of him, but hey! That's dorkiness for you. He took his seat in the very front, but noticed something was off. Something was missing. He was missing his friend... his best friend. Where was Harry?
Peter took out his phone and opened Harry's contact.Peter: yo
