Ella was going for her baby scan. She knew deep down she wanted Max there with her but she knew that couldn't happen. She would be alone.

When she went downstairs that morning, she saw Rachel. "I'm sorry I told Alexis what you said."

"Oh well. Now I'm the one who looks like an idiot. But it's fine. As soon as I've had the baby, I'm leaving."

Rachel was shocked. She couldn't believe what Ella had said. "You don't mean that."

Ella sighed. "I do mean it though. I have nothing to stay here for. My baby won't have a father so I may as well go off and make a life for us."

Rachel walked into the staffroom. Alexis frowned when she saw her mum looking down. "Mum? What's happened?"

"It's Ella. She said she's leaving with the baby when it's been born."

Alexis was shocked. But both of them missed the look on Max's face. He wasn't going to allow Ella to leave with his baby.

Ella sat in the waiting room on her own. She saw all the couples together and felt the tears hit her eyes. She didn't know why she felt so lonely.

"Ella Mason please."

Ella stood up and followed the midwife. She smiled slightly. "Hello Ella. How are you?" She asked.

"Anxious. I just hope everything is okay with the baby," Ella replied.

The midwife smiled. "Is this your first pregnancy?"

"Yeah. First and last. The morning sickness is horrid."

The midwife put the gel onto Ella's stomach and began moving the Doppler around. Soon the faint heartbeat of the baby filled the room. Ella smiled. "That's amazing. Is everything okay?"

The midwife looked and smiled. "From what I can see, the baby is a little on the small side. But that should change as the pregnancy progresses."

Ella nodded. "Can I have a copy of the scan? For my mum."

Ella returned to work after the scan. She saw Max waiting for her. "Can I help you?"

"Leaving are you?"

Ella sighed and tried to walk off but Max grabbed her and stopped her. "You can't leave. Not with my child. I won't allow it."

Ella looked at him. "You don't want to be involved. You already told me that. Just let me go off and make a life for me and the baby. Please."

Max shook his head. "No. That is my child in there and I'm not missing out. I can't be the father. But I can sure as hell watch it grow."

"I don't want that! I want my baby to have a daddy. Someone who will teach him or her to ride a bike. Or be the one they go to when they've hurt themselves. Just leave me alone. Please."

Ella tried to not cry as she sat in the office. She didn't want to be around anyone. She was the one who was going to be alone. But could she truly cope away from her whole family?
