Summary: How Hugo and Winnie got together

Winnie looked up in alert as she heard a twig snap.

"Who's there?" She called out.

"Uh, Hugo Jackson." A voice responded.

"The deputy?" She sat up

"Yeah." He stepped out from behind a tree and gave a slight wave. "Hey, are you the girl that was kidnapped?"

"I wasn't kidnapped. The Tuck's where,,, are my friends." She explained.

"Right." He nodded. "Kidnapped or not you gave a lot of people a good scare." The boy stated. Winnie simply shrugged. "You're not like the other Foster's are you?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Guess not. I'd rather be out here than in the house, learning manners and what not." A toad croaked in the distance and Winnie smiled.

"I get it. You want to really live. Not be stuck in a house all day doing stuff that your mom wants you to be. Not who you want to be."

"Exactly." The girl looked up at him. Hugo's ears flushed, as he never really talked to any girls that were like her, or really any girl at all.

"Do you come here often?" Hugo said as he knelt next to a spring that she was sitting next to and reached his hands in the cup some water.

"Don't drink that." She scrambled in front of it.

"What's wrong with it?"

"Its uh not good water, probably give ya worms or dysentery or something."

"Dysentery?" He questioned.

"Yeah, a real bad case, where you can't even make it to the bathroom before you poop yourself." Winnie exaggerated everything as you spoke.

"Okay then." He shrugged. "Mind if I sit?"

"Go ahead." She moved over so he could sit.

"So are you going to tell me what's really wrong with the water?" Hugo asks.

"I told ya."

"That water is clear as a crystal. You get dysentery when you like to drink the same water you bathe in."

"Just don't drink, okay?"

Hugo puts his hands up defensively.

"Okay okay, if you don't want me to drink It I won't."

"Thanks." Hugo looked at his watch.

"I uh gotta go."

"Have some deputy work to do?"

"Not exactly." He laughed nervously. "Just have to make my rounds around the town."

"Well have fun." Winnie started to draw in the dirt. Hugo nodded and turned to leave. "Hey, Hugo?"

"Hm?" He turned around again.

"Meet me here around this time tomorrow?" She asked.

"Yeah, sure." He nodded.

"Great!" Winnie smiled.
