Warning, angst coming your way.

Jesse choked down a sob as Miles laid a strong arm across his shoulders to sturdy him.

"I was hoping it wasn't true." The boy said miserably.

"I know." Was all Miles could say in return. This time Jesse let the tears fall.

"Can I be alone?" He turned to the Tucks then back to Winnie's grave.

"Of course," Mae said sympathetically and they turned to leave. Jesse's knees buckled and another cry left his throat.

"Oh, Winnie." He rested his head on the gravestone. He could almost hear her voice saying back 'It'll be okay, Jesse'. Jesse blinked another round of tears out of his eyes and ran his hands through his messy head of hair. Deep down he always knew that his plans would never work. But what Jesse would give to see the high spirited girl again. He finally knew what Miles had to deal with every day. Living every moment without the person he loved most. The pain was crucial and unholy. Jesse clenched his hands so tightly his knuckles turned white, and he took many deep breaths to calm his sobs.

"She was happy." He could hear his brother speak from behind him.

"I want to be happy for her." The boy spoke quietly.

"Are you happy for her?"

"I'm glad she lived a full life, but I wanted her to be with me."

"You understand why that would've never worked, right?"

"Yeah." He sighed.

"And if you had to choose, would you really want to be immortal?"

"N-No." He stammered.

"I know it's hard but it had to be this way," Miles said. Jesse closed his eyes and nodded, letting a few stray tears seep through his eyelids. MIles tightly embraced his brother.

"It hurts." Jesse whimpered.

"I'm not going to lie to you, Jesse. The pain doesn't go away. Sometimes it's not as bad but its always going to hurt."

"She's gone."

"Gone, but not forgotten."
