Artists and Tumblr

Hiccup sighed, throwing his bag on the floor of his dorm room. His roommate was out doing something or other and left him to have time to himself which was not something since he moved into the dorms of his university. The brunette stretched as he took a seat at his designated desk, his laptop already plugged in before he left for classes. With a quick kick off his shoes and opened up the screen.

He went to his internet browser and hesitantly clicked on his tumblr tab. He had posted some of his latest fan art from a movie he enjoyed the night before. He was always told he was a great artist and he had over eight hundred followers but it still bothered him when no one liked or reblogged his stuff. Or worse, reblogged without giving feed back in the tags. With a deep breath he clicked to his activity, ignoring his four messages for now.

"A hundred hits. Not bad." he mumbled to himself, fixing his glasses. He checked out the reblogs and found a few good responses and some bad ones. There’s just no way to please everyone in this fandom. He sighed and clicked on his messages.

"Lovely." Hiccup mumbled, glaring at the screen. Last time he tries a romance piece.

Wow, really great color scheme. Ive always loved your work, you’re blog is one of the first ones I followed. Could you give me some feed back on my art? I would really like another artists opinion.

Hiccup blinked and re-read the message again. The artists icon as a blonde girl with flowers in her hair, obviously a cartoon style but beautifully rendered. He clicked onto her blog and was shocked by not only the simple layout but the many pieces she had posted. She wasnt from the same fandoms as him with the exception of a movie and a few shows. But her art was amazing. She was obviously good with anatomy while he was better off with dragons and armored warriors.

He liked a few photos and followed her before clicking back to his messages.

Youre really good. I like the realness of your anatomy and the poses you put your characters in. I think you should just challenge yourself because youre already a great artist.

Hiccup looked over his message. Professional sounding, complimentary and a little advice. That’s about as good as it gets. With a click to the Answer Privately button, the message was off. With that he found himself back at his dashboard scrolling aimlessly as usual. Liking posts, reblogging here and there. He was an addict to tumblr and he knew that it was bad when he scroll through his dash at least five times every couple of hours like it was going to change.

His roommate Jack usually made fun of him for being a nerd and needing to make real friends. But he it was good hearted teasing unlike the crap he got from his family other roommates hes had. After a good fifteen minutes he got up and grabbed a water from his mini fridge when he noticed a bright red ‘1’ next to his message box again.

He sat down and clicked it.

Thank you! Im really glad you liked it. I means a lot. i dont get a lot of support outside of tumblr. Even then not everyone is happy.

Hiccup smiled to himself and clicked to reply:

I know what you mean. Dragons and vikings are exactly everyone’s thing and if they are, i never do it right. How long have you been painting?
