No matter how hard I try
The all nighters, the extra help, the sports, the clubs, the bullies
The stepdad, the brother, the mom, the absent father
The dreams and the plan that for years were getting closer and closer to becoming realAnd then a fierce wake up call, you're slapped in the face, the world awakens you from the deluded idea that if you try your best you will succeed
Money has always been and seems to never fail to be a formidable obstacle, unmoving always lurking and pouncing whenever close to wanting or achieving.
Whoever came up with "you can be anything you want to be" was also delusional, it should be "you can be anything you want to be as long as you're white, able bodied, have connections, are 'smart' AND if whatever you want to do is hiring".
That and if you have the MONEY to pay for the education, training, networking etc that you'll need to achieve said dream.
