It laughs at me
Struggling against the wind
Water pelting on my face
The constant fear of being splashed by some bully driving by
Envy of those in warm cars
Just three miles'
'You got this mamas'
'1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8'
'Step hut, step hut, step hut'
The wind picks up
You zone out miss your turn
Now the long busy road is your only option to be on time for job number two...
Soaked despite the water proof jacket and sturdy umbrella.
A feeling of embarrassment bubbles up when you have to call and let your manager know you'll be late
That pool of water was too deep for your black sneakers
The black slacks right leg drenched in the final stretch
You enter limping, cold and weighed down by the water weight in your pants.
Exhausted at the beginning of a six hour shift on foot.
Overwhelmed and frustrated but you made it through another shitty day.
