Masamune: "I want to know more about you too." Masamune's words had that strange, attractive power to them again. "The things you say really rattle me. I don't know where your ideas come from, or how they make sense to you. But when I threatened them, you started to cry. And I'd rather see you happy than crying." Masamune gently touched my cheek. Masamune. He looked at me, and something in the blue of his eye tugged at my heart. Then he smiled. "If you're not smiling, it's hard to kiss you."
Mai: "What?! You'd kiss the same girl you threatened to kill?"
Masamune: "Is that weird?"
Mai: "Yes, it's weird! I wouldn't try to kiss you after trying to kill you!" Amazed, I took Masamune's hand off my cheek.
Masamune: "That's not weird to me at all. It's a reality of my life." Masamune turned my hand around in his, wrapping his warm fingers around mine. "Guess we really do need to understand each other better." He brought my hand up to his lips and kissed it, brushing his lower lip under my fingers for just a second, smiling playfully. You're not going to learn about me by trying to kiss the information out of me. No matter how good it feels. "I just had an idea. Mai, are you free tonight?"
Mai: "That depends."
Masamune: "It's an opportunity to get to know me."
Mai: "I just want to know what you're fighting for."
Masamune: "If you want an answer now, I can only tell you it's so I stay me. If you want the long answer, then come see me tonight. I'll show you with actions, not with words." Isn't communicating with actions what got us here? That doesn't mean I won't go though. "When the sun sets, come to Hideyoshi's place. I'll be in Mitsunari's room."
Mai: "You want to meet in Mitsunari's room? Why?"
Masamune: "Good question." Masamune laughed low and melodiously. "Guess you'll have to come if you want to find out!"
------------
Let's see if curiosity really killed the cat! That evening, I came to Hideyoshi's manor. Right now, I'm most curious about why Masamune chose this place to meet. A vassal of Hideyoshi's directed me to Mitsunari's room. Not hearing any sounds, I opened the door and stepped inside.Mai: "Excuse me?" Wow. It's like a storm touched down in a library! Mitsunari and Mitsuhide were seated among the chaos of letters, maps, and books.
Mitsuhide: "She really came. Mitsunari, you have a guest.
Mitsunari: "I have a what? Oh! Mai. It's nice of you to come by." Mitsunari looked up in surprise from the book he was reading.
Mai: "Good evening. So, Masamune called me here, is he--"
Mitsunari: "Yes, he informed us that you're going to join us for dinner."
Mai: "For dinner? Is that what this is about?" I spun around as the door opened behind me.
Masamune: "You made it. That's a good lass." As soon as he came into the room, Masamune stroked my hair affectionately.
Mai: "So what's this about dinner?"
Mitsuhide: "Masamune is rather insistent about Mitsunari and I getting the proper amount of food. He does this all the time. Tonight, he let us know that you'd be coming as well."
Masamune: "Mitsuhide explained it. Anyway, I could use your help in the kitchen."
Mai: "I'm flattered you assume I can be of any help!" Masamune moved toward the kitchen and I once again found myself following him. He should have just told me we were going to dinner. My mind went to some very . . . interesting places.
