Masamune: "You're going to pay for the despicable things you've done, Hiromine. But first, you're going to pay for putting your rotten hands on my lass." Whoa-oh!  Masamune drew his sword, aiming the tip at Hiromine.

Hiromine: "W-Wait! You can't blame me for that! I didn't know she was yours!"

Masamune: "You were a creep to her regardless." Oooh, he's angry!  Hiromine clambered away, but there was no hiding -- Masamune's rage-filled the room.

Hiromine: "Mitsuhide, tell him to back down, will you?!"

Mitsuhide: "It wouldn't do any good. No one can stop Masamune once he's enraged, I'm afraid. You had the misfortune to involve Mai as well. Poor soul. You have my pity." It's nice to be vindicated, but shouldn't we settle this in an official capacity, guys? I don't want Masamune back in trouble.  I put a hand on Masamune's arm, hoping to calm him down, when--

???: ". . . I was worried things might get out of hand with just the two of you."

Hideyoshi: "Masamune, you can put your sword away."

Mai: "Hideyoshi?" Hideyoshi brushed past Mitsuhide and Hiromine.

Hideyoshi: ". . . We'll see he's punished for the embezzling. But that will be later."

Masamune: "Later, huh? Why not let me save you the time and trouble?" Masamune's blade inched closer. Hiromine burbled in fear.

Hideyoshi: "Because you were just released from confinement? Can't you see Mai doesn't want you to get yourself in trouble?"

Masamune: ". . . You're right." Masamune clicked his tongue and sheathed his sword. "Hiromine. You're spared this time, on Hideyoshi's command alone." Phew.  I hope that's over with . . .  I let out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding.

Mitsuhide: "Indeed. You'll live to see justice, though it might not be pleasant. If Hideyoshi hadn't shown up, your fate would arguably be--"

Hideyoshi: ". . . Mitsuhide, that's enough." It didn't look like the trembling Hiromine was listening to anything we said anyway. Bullying everyone when he turned out to be nothing more than a coward.  Masamune had lost interest in Hiromine too.

Masamune: "I appreciate you stepping in, Hideyoshi."

Hideyoshi: ". . . Don't get humble with me now. I have enough headaches with the regular you."

Masamune: "Yeah, but I really owe you this time." Hideyoshi shook his head and hauled Hiromine to his feet.

Hideyoshi: "I'll be taking this one to Lord Nobunaga for questioning."

Mitsuhide: "Why, I believe that's my cue." Mitsuhide chuckled as he followed Hideyoshi to the door. Hideyoshi stopped and looked back at the two of us.

Hideyoshi: "By the way, we're having a dinner tonight to celebrate your release. I expect both of you to be there."

Masamune: "Sure. The lass and I will drop in." A dinner, huh? Sounds like everyone's been missing Masamune.  The invitation made it sink in: Masamune was free. After we saw them out, he embraced me. "What's that smile for? Happy that this is over?" I giggled, my smile widening.

Mai: "Of course I am! But that's not the only reason."

Masamune: "It's not?"

Mai: "Nope! I'm also smiling because you've got such good friends who're always there for you. It's all thanks to your hard work and conviction!" And that's a reason to be happy.  Masamune brushed a strand of hair behind my ear.
