Masamune: "There. I think we managed it."
Mai: "We're definitely closer, but is it okay to fool around when you're confined to quarters, Mister Dangerous Criminal?" I drew a finger across his lips, teasing him by pulling away at the last second.
Masamune: "We're not fooling around. You said it yourself: you're helping keep me sane. I'm only assured of behaving while you're here."
Mai: "That's good enough for me." We shared another kiss, lips opening to each other, tongues entangling.
. . . You should be under arrest for these kisses. They steal my breath away. I caught his gaze through my lashes, and the next thing I knew, he'd stolen my heart too.
Masamune: "I might ask Hideyoshi to extend my sentence if this is what I've got to look forward to." Masamune nudged me with his knee, drawing me further onto his lap and into the joy of his warm, molten kisses . . .
------
Several days later--
I was visiting Masamune, as had become my daily routine since his confinement. Remember, stay positive! We've got to keep our spirits up while this lasts.
Mai: "Tea's ready! Get it while it's hot!"
Masamune: ". . . Thanks." I placed the steaming cup on his desk. Masamune set down his book.
Mai: "You're really tearing through those books Mitsuhide brought you. Are you going to need some more soon?"
Masamune: "I'm good. Besides, Mitsuhide himself should be by any day now." That's right. He's supposed to bring news of he-and-Masamune's-know-what. As Masamune took a sip of tea, I heard the sound of footsteps outside the door.
Vassal: "My lord, I'm sorry to interrupt-- Lord Hiromine's here. He wishes to see you." Hiromine? Not Mitsuhide?
. . . What's that guy want with Masamune? I shot Masamune a nervous look.
Masamune: "Heh. He's come to see me?"
Mai: "I don't like this, Masamune. It sounds like that trouble I was afraid of."
Masamune: "Yea, he didn't come here to make nice. But if I turn him down, he'll tell everyone I'm not being 'penitent' enough. I'll handle him though. Mai, why don't you go on back to the castle?" He's worried about me. But I'm worried about him!
Mai: "If it's all the same to you, I'd like to stay."
Masamune: "You sure about that?"
Mai: "I'm not staying so I can punch him -- however much I want to. I'd like to be here and provide moral support." Masamune cocked a grin.
Masamune: "You're too good to me, lass. All right, you can stay. And when he's gone, you and I can make up for the interruption. How's that sound?" He set down his tea and sidled up to me. I gave him a quick hug. ". . . Invite him in."
Vassal: "Yes, my lord." I'm kind of curious to know if this guy is the old toad I've been picturing him as? Hiromine strode in. He was tall and lean. Not much older than Masamune, yet his eyes looked dismissively on all he saw.
Masamune: "Welcome, Hiromine."
Hiromine: "Thank you for agreeing to see me -- as I'm quite aware you don't presently have the ability to return the visit."
Mustn't cause an incident for Masamune. Mustn't cause an incident . . . Hiromine sat across from us. Masamune offered him a bow befitting the man's lordly status while maintaining his own dignity.
