I spun back, cornered, with no way out-- Then, like the moon emerging from the clouds, a certain someone appeared in front of me.
Masamune: "Go on. Try and lay a finger on the lass. You'll regret it. Masamune?!
Bandit 1: "Who are you!" As soon as I saw his familiar figure, my fear melted away into relief.
Mai: "Masamune, what are you doing here?"
Masamune: "Gohei fetched me. Are you all right?" He wielded his sword in one hand, glancing at me to make sure I was unharmed.
Mai: "I'm fine."
Masamune: "Good to hear. Just leave the rest to me." He returned his cool eye to the bandits, his blade glinting as he pointed it their way.
Bandit 1: "You trying to stand in our way?"
Bandit 2: "Let's just get rid of this guy! Then we can have our fun with the woman." The bandits chuckled, raising their weapons.
Mai: "...Boy, sounds like a great time..."
Masamune: "Get back, lass." Masamune caught the first blow, his sword ringing the song of steel. It danced as well as it sang, taking two men down quickly. "I'll be taking all the fun here." I couldn't believe the ease with which he fought such large numbers. You know, he does make it look like fun... In the blink of an eye, the number of bandits had been halved. It wouldn't be long until he'd stopped them all. Or so I'd thought--
Bandit 3: "Drop your weapon!" Why would he say that--? Oh no! Masamune and I turned to look. One of the bandits had Gohei-- Gohei! No!
Gohei: "I'm sorry..."
Bandit 3: "Don't you care what happens to the kid?!"
Masamune: "...So, you can't win without cheating?" The bandit grinned, snidely.
Bandit 1: "Call it what you like. You're at our mercy now." Masamune growled. Even if we surrender, there's no way they're going to let Masamune or Gohei go free. I couldn't just stand here and do nothing while that happened! I've got an idea. There was a rock at my foot. Small-sized, but enough to do some damage. I picked it up. They're so focused on Masamune that they aren't even looking my way. For a moment, I felt a wave of panic. What if I missed, like this afternoon...?
Masamune: "I'll show you. First, try hitting the split in that tree over there."
Gohei: "All the way over there? No way. I couldn't even hit the target the others hit--"
Masamune: "Don't give up before you start."
...I won't give up! I failed once, but I'd succeeded the second time. I could do it. I readied my aim.
Bandit 3: "I said, drop the sword!"
Masamune: "...All right." Just as Masamune started to let go-- With my training and Masamune's technique...! I threw the rock at the bandit holding Gohei. It struck his arm with a painful sound.
Bandit 3: "Ugh?!" Got 'em! The bandit let go of Gohei--
Mai: "Gohei! This way!" I ran to meet him halfway, throwing my arms around him protectively as I reached him.
Bandit 1: "You're turning out to be more to be more trouble than your worth, girlie!" Oh boy. This might hurt! There was a sword coming my way. Just as I thought the man might strike-- ...Then again, it might not. My would-be assailant fell to the ground.
