Day Two

We laid in the darkness unable to find the words to speak.

My thumb rubbed up and down her soft hand. She let out a deep breath and stood up out of the bed.

"Jillian? Where are you going?" My voice was hushed almost to a whisper.

"Hang on." She held up her finger telling me to wait as she walked out of the room and into the dark hallway.

I rolled onto my back and closed my eyes. Thoughts came flooding in. What was I supposed to do after this? How was I supposed to wake up every day knowing its one day closer to not being able to see her face?

"Now," she said as she sat down cross legged on the bed. She turned on the lamp behind her, revealing a notebook she had laid on the bed. Written in black marker on the front of the book was 'My Bucket List'. Next to it was an old tin lunchbox with the word 'Dreams' on it.

"I'm not going to sit here and waste the last two months of my life." She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "I have been saving money since I've been a kid so that I could complete my bucket list before I died."

I sat up, "okay, then let's complete your bucket list."

She smiled "I knew you would want to do it with me."

"Of course." I ran my fingers through my hair. "I'd do anything with you."

"Unfortunately there is one here that I won't be able to complete, but I think the rest-"

I cut her off "why can't you complete it?"

She looked at me with a small smile on her lips "because, the last one is getting married."

"Let's do it." I whispered.

"Oh no, Michael, I can't do that to you." Her head shook as she tried to clear that thought from my mind.

"No, I want to marry you."

She sighed, "Are you sure?"

"I'm positive that I want to marry you, Jillian."

She smiled "Then let's get married."
