"Here lies Nothing"
Sitting there surrounded by smiles
I have one of mine out too
Frozen like in a photo
Mouth opens, teeth is bared, but eyes are empty
Laughter echoes over the crowd
I don't get the joke that causes them to laugh so loud
Maybe it's me being a cynic
but those sounds sort of sound identical
Like some sort of rehearsed script
Which makes me think I'm the only one who's out of it
I may be jaded but all I see
Is a forced act of civility
Marionettes are they perhaps?
Or maybe pretty looking dollies
Well never mind I'll just do what I always do
Smile until my jaw's stiff and starts to lock
Nod politely at a guest
Shake their hands and greet them "Welcome "
All trying to not leak my unlikely character
And my always shunned flaws
Here I'm an oddity
But they don't need to know that
I'll just keep this lovely act for sanity
because underneath this whole facade
all is void and naught.
