" You can manage the rest, right? I'll go home now" Stephanie, my project partner, said dismissively as she started to pack her things.
She left most of the work to me...
There's this familiar unknown dull ache in my chest spreading like a cold fire. Thought she was my friend.
My pug, Stultus, came over and sat on my lap, throwing a nonchalant glance in Stephanie's direction.
"Is that your dog? No offense but it looks ugly." Stephanie said scrunching her face in distaste. Stultus's eyes narrowed as if he could understand her.
"Roof" Stultus growled, baring his unruly canines. "Oh ho, Stultus my good boy, calm ur shits. Be hospitable to our guest!" Santos, my brother scolded him. " Girls, do u want some snacks?" Santos smiled revealing all his upper teeth. Stephanie looked uncomfortable. "No, I'm about to go" she headed towards the stairs.
"Watch the ste_" Santos warned.
"Arghhh!" her scream resonated in the house as she fell all the way down.
"My my, good girl Stephanie. Are you alright? Your face looks like it's been kicked by a donkey. Poor girl"Santos 'comforted' her.
"Nheeheehehe" Stultus whined disturbingly while rolling on the floor.
"'I'm never coming back to your house, Pollen!" With that, Stephanie left the house in tears and snots."Santos, you embarrassed her." I complained even though it was quite a good show. Hehe, smiling internally.
"Bitch deserved that!"
"Rife!" Stultus barked as if he was a part of the convo while scratching his ears with his hind legs.
......
"Anyway, the day after tomorrow is Halloween's day, the special day. Penllo, what do you want to be this year?
"An angel with white wings and fluffy feathers. Santos the mentos" I replied.
"I'll be the demon as usual. Tsk, the irony"he mumbled. The Halloween's day arrived. The house was decorated with eerie accessories. The skulls Santos bought from a store, the fake blood-spurting fountain in the living room and the dour atmosphere in the house. They all looked real. Santos really had a thing for Halloween.
Santos, he is really a good brother. Actually, he is my everything, a supporting father, a loving mother, and most of all, a protecting friend. He can be mean and weird at times . His animosity scares people away. But in my eyes , he's my fairy god father (in this case). Why would I need many people to fit the roles when I have one who fits in every single role?"Santos the mentos and Stultus the doofus, where are you guys? I think we need more candi-" she dropped to the ground and the time stopped. She was lying on the ground in her white angel dress. She looked out of place.
"Sir, for the first time in my life, I feel this is so wrong"
"What have we done, Stultus?"
Satan sighed.
"We've done things the way they're supposed to be. But somehow, this is not how it's supposed to be. It's right but it's wrong."
"Stultus"
"Yes?" "Shut up" "Sorry"
Pollen was a lonely and depressed 8 years old girl I made a deal with 5 years ago. Her parents died in fire and she had no friends. She even tried to suicide. But then she met me and exchanged her pure soul for 5 years company of a friend. I agreed and erased her memory of her past including the deal.
But when the time comes, I couldn't bring myself to kill her. She had grown on me. Don't get me wrong. I've not gone soft. I still collect souls for a daily basis. But my kindness only limits to her. I never knew kindness and Satan could go together in a sentence.
She cared for this evil being. She remembered my birthday( a fake one I told her) when no one did. And she defended me when people talked bad about me. It's true I agreed to be her friend. But she is also my friend. I can't lie to myself. We're both depending on each other.
But now, my sister/friend is lying dead on the ground because of me. The deal is complete but I became incomplete.
There are two solutions.
One: Bring her to Hell and rule the underworld together. So, you won't lose your only friend.
Two: Release her soul and let her go. You'll lose your only friend.Obviously, the 1st one is the right choice. Pollen will be happy with me and Stultus in Hell. But... but to what extent?
For the first time in my life, I chose the second opinion for the sake of my friend.
After all, like Pollen once said, " Angels return to heaven. "
