Katherines Pov
Secrets.
Lies.
All my life all I've been told were lies, I have too many secrets. My secrets could get someone killed, instead of telling people the truth about myself I lie.
Not only is it easier to lie but nobody has to get hurt, I can protect everyone that way. A little white lie has never hurt anybody, right?
"You seriously expect me to believe that?"
"Yes, I was in the forest and lost track of time, I accidentally fell asleep there," I smiled sheepishly at Amelia's parents, they both sighed and hugged me, telling me how worried they were but glad that I'm safe.
After the whole hugging I walked into Amelia's room and saw her sitting on my bed, looking at me with a raised eyebrow.
"You can lie to them but not to me so spill," She demanded, I closed the door and sighed dramatically before launching my body at her.
"Get comfortable because this is gonna take some time,"

Its been two days since I've told Amelia what happened, I still haven't confessed about killing that man and his family. She didn't need to know I slipped back into old habits.
I was currently sitting outside under a tree near the park, watching as the children run and laugh with each other. Parents smiling at their kids, some playing along with them and interacting with other parents.
The sky was light blue with small white clouds floating around and there was a rainbow right between the clouds, it was a beautiful sight to see.
I looked at the park once again and there was one particular kid that caught my eye, he was sitting all alone and scowled at anyone that looked at him.
When he caught me staring, he stuck his tongue out and I rolled my eye's before doing the same. His eyes widened in surprise, I smirked at him. He didn't think I was going to do it back well jokes on him! I'm a kid by heart.
He stood up and walked over to where I was currently sitting, he plopped right down next to me.
"My names Max," He introduced himself, not daring to look into my eyes and I frowned slightly, I put my finger under his chin and turned his face in my direction.
"Call me Kathy, it's a pleasure to meet a cutie like you Max," His cheeks tainted pink, a small chuckle escaped my lips as he playfully scowled at me.
We spoke for about thirty minutes before where he's parents were, he didn't answer and I watched as his smile slowly disappeared. Meaning something had happened to his family or he was an orphan, these thoughts made me feel uneasy.
I sighed, running my fingers through his hair as he laid his head on my thighs.
"It's alright kid, you don't have to answer that. It wasn't my place to ask any way," He looked at me with glossy eyes as he shook his head.
"I trust you Kat. Honestly, I would like to know where they are too, who leaves a ten-year-old all alone?" I could hear the frustration and confusion in his voice.
"Who looks after you Max?"
"What do you mean? I look after myself, I don't need anybody to look after me. I'm a big boy, I can find food and clothes for myself," He sat up and rubbed away the tears that rolled down his slightly pink ,puffy cheeks, I gently grabbed him, puling the fragile boy into my arms giving him a hug.
"It's okay to admit that you need someone, even though we literally just met a few minutes ago ,I'm here for you Max. I'll look after and care for you that way you will never be alone again. You're coming home with me," He simply nodded as he cried quietly on my shoulder, hiding his face in the crook of my neck.
I stood up with him in my arms, the boy weighed practically nothing. He was small for his age, you could see his bones but he still had meat here and there. I walked with him home, nobody was there when I arrived because they went out or something I assume.
Max stomach growled as I placed him onto my bed, there was chicken wings laying on my table and I told him to them. I went down to the kitchen to fetch him some water and juice, not knowing which he would prefer so I brought both. When I came back he was finished, he only ate one and a half, I frowned at how little he ate but I couldn't force him to eat more he'll just vomit it out.
His stomach isn't use to eating a lot of food, let alone fatty foods so I should let him take it slow for now. I offered him the juice and water, he decided to take the water to hydrate his body.
He got under the blankets and made himself comfortable on my bed, he patted the space next to him. I chuckled as I got under the blanket and he cuddled me, I played with his long beautiful brown hair as his eyes slowly fluttered closed.
When his breaths evened out and little snores escaped his lips, I knew he was fast asleep. He had a small smile on his face which showed one of the beautiful dimples that he has, he was definitely going to be a ladies man when he grew up.
"Katheriiinneeee!" Amelia's voiced boomed as she entered the room, Max eyes shot open and he stared at me, his eyes held fear and I sent a glare to Amelia.
She looked at me innocently before shrugging, oblivious to the fact that there was another human being in the room. Max lifted his head up and looked at Amelia, tilting his head at her, he looked like a lost puppy.
Amelia's eyes were wide open, her mouth was slightly open, she looked like a deer caught in headlights and I burst out laughing. They both looked at me with confusion which only caused me to laugh more after I sobered up, Amelia was sitting on my bed by our feet staring at Max.
"Who is she/he?" They both pointed at each other while speaking at the same time, they narrowed their eyes at each other after realizing they spoke at the same time.
"Max this is Amelia, Amelia this is Max," They eyed each other and hesitating shook hands.
Amelia opened her mouth to say something but I immediately cut her off, knowing what she was going to ask.
"I found him at the park all alone, he doesn't have any parents to look after and I'm not taking him to the police. I'm going to look after him and you can't change my mind," She huffed while crossing her arms.
"That wasn't what I--"
"Yes it was,"
"Whatever! We need clothes for him and you can't exactly look after him while you're at school,"
"I'll just take him with me then,"
"Do you really think they'll--"
"Last time I checked, I don't listen to school rules after all, rules are meant to be broken." I played with Max's hair as he watched SpongeBob square pants on the television.
Amelia hummed before getting off my bed and going to her own.
Tomorrow will be Friday, the last day of school before the long weekend. I don't have to go back to school until next week Wednesday, I could look for clothes and toiletries for Max during this weekend.
Tomorrow he can come to school with me since the day is short and I'll probably be cutting classes anyway.
I rested my head on the pillow and closed my eyes.
Something feels off yet I can't put my finger on it.
Was finding Max an accident or was he purposely put there? If i keep him will I be putting another innocent soul in danger?
All these thoughts were going through my head, instead of trying to discover the answers I fell into a blissful sleep.
