Furqan

"We crossed each other briefly,

yet, here I am

thinking about you again"

---

For Furqan, not being able to sleep at the right time is extremely annoying. Being someone who has his day planned from the sunrise to sunset, he hates having unplanned hours in the day. These unplanned hours include anytime after 8 pm on the weekends. He is supposed to be asleep by now but because of the lack of activity in the day, he keeps tossing and turning in his bed.

After awhile, this becomes unbearable. Furqan gets up from his bed, frustrated, grabs his car keys from the side table and walks to the kitchen to get his water bottle. After drinking some water, he thinks about just anything he could do to get tired.

His last resort is to work, which he really wants to avoid today because it has been such a tiring week for him. All week Furqan had been waking up to work on web development and moved to team programming for the entire evening. eight hours of web development didn't tire him out, it was the few hours of regular team programming that sucked his soul dry. He had to have long conversations with his team members as they have just started a new project, for an introvert and shy person like Furqan is, it has been too much to handle.

He only sat down during these conversations, but his entire body ached after them. This weekend, he really wanted to just relax his mind and do something entirely different from work. Perhaps that can be the main reason why he is unable to sleep today. He just hasn't done enough to be tired enough to fall asleep.

Furqan looks at his to do list that he had stuck on his fridge earlier today. He has to get groceries for the house tomorrow.

Getting groceries can be quite tiring as Furqan likes to spend way too much time reading labels and looking at several items at the grocery store. And so, Furqan decides it as the best option for tonight.

He quickly grabs his reusable grocery bags, and walks to his car.

As Furqan starts moving out of the compound he lives him, he notices how this place looks gorgeous at night. He observes how the yellow light from the street lights falls on the plants around them, making them look so special. And the houses, some with a few lights on, others with complete darkness, they stand their all so well built.

He notices people walking, some alone and some in groups. He almost comes to an abrupt stop when his eyes spot a couple kissing in one of the alleys outside his compound. He would've stopped because of shock and embarrassment, but he acted quickly and shifted his eyes back on the road.

Furqan was now mindlessly driving. he was supposed to stop at the grocery store near his house but he didn't feel like taking a turn, at least that's what he says to his mind every time he purposely ignores this grocery store. He just kept driving straight until he had no choice but to take slight turns on the road. He drove for what seemed like hours, thinking absolutely nothing. He observed each and everything on the roads today. He enjoyed their emptiness, and the beauty of his surroundings under the light of the street lamps and the moon.

His mindless driving finally came to a stop when he reached where his heart always took him. He knew that going further than this would have led him outside the city, so he decided to stop and look for a grocery store in this area instead (at least that's what his excuse is).

He knew where he is right now, all too well. He had come here a few months ago to meet a certain someone's family. And then after that to buy himself some cake from a local patisserie here, and then after that to grab a quick coffee for work, and then after that for every little excuse he could find. He felt utterly embarrassed on himself, knowing he comes here on purpose. For mindless driving takes you to places you want to be in subconsciously. He ignores his inner thoughts that blame him for his actions, and parks near the grocery store he knew all too well now, knowing all too well what he hopes for.
