CHAP 8

I woke up, startled and disorientated as someone stood above me, shaking my shoulder gently. Hunter...

"William told me you woke up... Said to wait for everyone to get some sleep before we tell them the news. I just thought I'd come and talk to you privately," His face was completely healed, probably thanks to the ridiculously fast healing process werewolfs possess. He had been beaten so bad I thought there would at least be a scratch.

"Well I think you should thank me, I dragged you for hours, apparently," I tried to lighten the mood with a little sarcasm and small smile, but his grave expression stayed put.

"That's why I'm here," His tone was dead serious as he leaned forward in the chair. My raging appetite was pushed to the back of my mind as I frowned at him.

"Well, go on then,"

"I don't know why you did what you did. You could have left him to finish me off and I still  wouldn't of died. Yeah, I would've been in a world of pain, but not dead. That fact you did that for me, a complete stranger... I can't explain it but I'm grateful and pathetic. Pathetic to risk my mates life, grateful for someone as brave as you. I talked to your brothers and I'm allowed contact with you but no relationships yet... You own a piece of my heart, my soul, so a little restrictions isn't going to scare me away," The blood was already rushing to my cheeks and I didn't know what to say. If I opened my mouth I'd start stuttering and spewing random words.

"Hunter I... You're..," What do I say?

"You're very sweet but I'm not the kind of girl that falls in love from a few words, even in my current, weak state," Dammit Liz, stop being a bitch for five seconds. That's bullshit, you fell in love with Ryder after hello. His solemn expression cracked and he smirked. The corner of his mouth pulling up as he laughed with his eyes.

"That's what I love about you. You're a fighter," Love? My silly heart fluttered. So did the monitor. This surprised him as his eyes widened a fraction and he jumped out of his chair. I would've laughed if he hadn't started panicking, rushing around, grabbing things he thought might help.

"What's wrong? Are you in pain? Do you want a drink? Where's the water!?" That's when William burst in, wet hair and all. He must've been taking a shower while I slept. Good, he has to look after himself better.

The two had a staring showdown before Will assessed me, checking for any visual damage.

"What the hell happened?"

"I don't know, it just started beeping and I freaked out," Hunter was wringing his hands, running his fingers roughly over the denim of his jeans. William stalked over to me, shoving Hunter out of his way.

"How are you feeling?" His raging eyes softened as he stood over me, pulling the blanket up to my chin to tuck me in. The parental gesture bought a pang of nostalgia, the lingering memories of when Mom would tuck me in, dragging me under the frequent feeling of abandonment. Thrashing my arms from under the blanket, I pushed it off, as well as the emotions.

"I'm fine. I'd like to get up now, actually. Will, little help?" I could use the help since I hadn't stretched or used my muscles in over 5 days. He grabbed my hand and I tightened my hold. The familiar feel of his hand in mine instantly relaxed me and I didn't want to let go. Despite being treated like a child by him, my little-sister side would always cherish Will the most. I loved all my brothers but William was always the special one. He stood by me always, cared for me the most, made me laugh the loudest and loved me unconditionally. He filled mom and dad's shoes when he knew I needed them most.
