Then Oliver showed up. I could feel my heart beating like the hollow drum it was. Yes, my ears felt the beat and only God knows if anyone else did because their eyes all stared at me as if they had heard it all.
I tried to dodge him by going to get our wristbands. Yes I'm a scary sissy but last time we were around each other, pure destruction of relationship happened. As much as I wanted to put it under the bridge and walk over it, that angry behavior needed to be addressed. Jackson paid for mine but not because I asked him to. I didn't. He wouldn't let me pay- damn him! He snapped my wristband on laughing from me pouting because I couldn't do it myself which made him laugh even harder. So hard that his face was red which only embarrassed me a little. I pouted as he successfully snapped on his own without any need for help. But then Oliver was behind us. Acting like he didn't realize we were there. He probably didn't since his ego had walls around him like China.
I took in his appearance as we stepped out off the way since everything had slowed down anyhow. Oliver had that effect. He always seemed to stop the clock just by being around. His black shirt wrapped tightly to him but his sweats hung at his waist and were tucked into his signature black boots. The ball piercing on his eye brow rose as he grinned as if the jungle was in his heart. His eye brows rose in mock shock at us. Sure I'd asked for this. I asked for something eventful and oh how I regretted it. Oliver sure had some nerve showing up the way he did. I turned to Jack with a bit of hesitation as I could feel the tension. Maybe the tension was my fault, so I began trying to pull my date away. Bad move. Don't ever make abrupt movements in front of Oliver. He might lose his mind for just a split second and excuse me for not being able to handle him.
"Mary Jane? Jack? Hey!" He greeted us with an overly cheerful smile and damn, I tried not to be affected by the way his eyes shined with mischief. His chick just stared with an odd face like she was superior. I knew Oliver's history if I knew nothing else. Girls talked as well as guys and Oliver was never not on their tongue whether it be bitterness or jealously, Oliver was on someone's tongue. Maybe I didn't talk but I listened well. He probably already had sex with her if he lived up to his reputation. The thought upset my whole face and attitude. That's why I rolled my eyes when he tried approaching us. Though no one saw which was fine by me.
"It's Jackson. What's up?" Jackson scanned his eyes around the carnival slowly. His eyes landed on the pretty girl behind Oliver briefly and he squinted in disbelief before he finally met the daring Oliver's. For a second I could read everyone's mind through their eyes. Except for the one's mind I really wanted to swim in. Jackson knew that Oliver knew we would be here. Hell he'd announced it. I didn't see the big deal except he seemed spiteful. The happy carnival music faded out at just the right moment of awkwardness.
"Since we're both here, why don't we call it a double date?" I began to shake my head but his black haired beauty was nodding.
Her pierced nose glittered a purple color which irritated me. They were perfect for each other. There was no doubt about it. She had a nose piercing and he had his eyebrow piercing and together they would be perfection and I hated it. Acceptance of challenge came out overall and he nodded.
"Yeah. Whatever's fine." He nodded and pulled me closer. Which made me slightly uncomfortable but I realized this wasn't about me. And I gladly accepted that. Oliver chuckled quietly when his girl pushed herself into his side. He bent down to her and let her hair cascade down his elbow as he whispered something to her ear. She giggled quietly and casts a devious look but otherwise doesn't say anything.
"Katrina meet Mary Jane and Jack." He introduced us with an overwhelmingly prosthetic smile. Her gum popped loudly until she smiled. Oliver called Jackson the wrong name which Jackson corrected again under his breath to himself. He probably hoped he could keep his pride intact after being called out of his name.
